Many People Believe That Women Make Better Parents Than Men and That This Is Why They Have Greater Role in Raising Children in Most Societies. Others Claim That Men Are Just as Good as Women in Parenting Are. Essay Example
First, let us examine this statement ‘Many people believe that women make better parents than men and that this is why they have greater role in raising children in most societies. Others claim that men are just as good as women in parenting are’ from the light of history. In the beginning of time when Man has separated themselves from God by transgression, He has declared that Man must work to earn his living whilst the woman will be the homemaker. This is the ‘foundation’ etched into the minds of Man since and has passed from generation to generation up to today. We could see this in approximately every tribe, race, community, societies, and even entire nations. Sadly, we could also see the travesty of this harmonious ‘way of life’, by Man itself. Women are taking to the streets, replacing men in their work and careers – to prove and have proven that they can be superior to men. This is not wrong per say, but it is not right either, unless the woman’s main priority still lies with the wellbeing of her family.
God created both man and woman to be equal beings. The sole purpose for the creation of Woman is to be the ‘helpmate’ to Man according to Gen: 2:18: And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. However, after Man was ‘kicked out’ of Paradise, they must fend for themselves – as a physical punishment. The man will work – tiling the ground, planting and farming, raising cattle etc whereas the woman will stay at home to keep the house, to raise children while remaining as a faithful ‘helpmate’ to the man/husband. This reflects similarly to all of us today. Our father should work (possibly the sole breadwinner), whereas our mother will do what she does best – being a mother! Although God created both to be equal, but He made Man, the higher compared to the woman. Therefore, she is to submit to her husband in everything that is right in the sight of God. Otherwise, it is her charged duty not to

n the essay, The Mother of All Questions by Rebecca Solnit, Solnit is bombarded with questions regarding her decision to not marry and have children. Instead of her interviewers focusing on her work, the thing she has dedicated her life to, she is instead held down by the stereotypes that plague women today. Many people in today’s society still had the notion that main responsibility for women is to give birth and care for that child. The fact that this notion is still prevalent in society bothers me because it prevents men from realizing that women have passions and desires that they want to accomplish in life outside of this cult of domesticity. An accomplished women will never get the respect she deserves if we give into the notion that…

Firstly one must look at the division of domestic labour and conjugal roles. Conjugal roles refer to the roles performed by men and women in relation to housework, childcare and paid work. Traditionally men had the instrumental ‘bread-winning’ role which the women had the expressive role (childcare and primary socialisation). Feminists say that the traditional division of labour is neither natural nor beneficial to women as their expressive role is unpaid and taken for granted. However different feminist views disagree on who benefits from this unpaid labour. Marxist feminists would argue it is capitalism that benefits most as wives keep their husbands happy and therefore they are left with a content workforce. On the other hand, radical feminists would argue that men are the main people to gain from women’s oppression as we live in a patriarchal society. A functionalist view from Wilmott and Young says that there has been a ‘march of progress’ in which the family has become more symmetrical with more joint conjugal roles (where both partners share the household labour). However feminists reject this view with Oakley arguing the family still remains patriarchal and Boulton saying the evidence to support the alleged rise in symmetry is weak, and that the responsibility for childcare still lies with women.…

It is imperative that women have the same freedoms as men. Women are people just like men and should have the same rights, equality among sexes. The article by Crystal Eastman “Now We Can Begin” is a successful argument for women’s rights. Freedom should be a right everyone possesses, without any exceptions equality is equality. Education should not be limited to only men, women who have been teaching for years because of a few different reasons should have the same opportunities.…

Traditional gender roles are being threatened in today’s economy, the out-dated stereotype that men are better workers than women is now absurd. Although, the stereotype that women can take care of the household better than men has not changed. For as long as human behavior has been documented there have been strict ideals of the different gender roles in parenting. These hunter and gatherer sub sequential gender responsibilities have fundamentally defined what the correct social position for men and women are, yet recently in some households those traditional gender roles have become reversed.…

The traditional view held by Christians is that men should be the dominant partner and that they should go out to work to pay for the family, while the wife stayed at home looking after children, doing housework and cooking. This comes from the bible, in which it is said that God created Man, and then created woman to be a helper for him. This is shown in Genesis 2:18- ‘The LORD God said it is not good for man to be alone, I will make a suitable helper for him.’ Also, as Christianity originated in a very patriarchal society, in which men always gained positions of authority, the traditionalist view was supported. This, nowadays is considered sexist and wrong generally, but this is still the view of some devout Christians. This in my opinion is borderline discriminant.…

Since the beginning of time man and woman have been told how they should act and what roles they should take in society. Today, the media is playing a major part in telling the role man and woman should take in society. Every day we see an ad in a magazine, on the TV, or on a billboard telling us what a perfect man or woman is. A man is supposed to support and protect his family, while the women can be one of two things. She can be a housewife whose only duties are to please her husband, keep the house looking nice, and take care of the kids, or she can work a full time job and support her family like the husband. However, just a few generations ago, society expected a husband to support his wife.…

Women want to get out and have a life, not just stay at home and do chores. Women also want to take care of their children. Mothers want to be the one that see their baby’s first crawl or first word. Mothers want to get that child up in the morning, dress her and see her off to her first day of school. Mothers tend to be more nurturing than fathers. For example when a child fall off her bike for the first time a mother will probably run to that child and put a bandage on. Whereas a father will most likely try to brush it off and get the child to try again. I totally agree that males should be the primary bread- winners. Then if a woman wants to work part time or go back to school she can. Sometimes taking care of the children and chores can be split in half between male and female, so no one feel that one is doing more work than the other. If a woman wants to get out the house sometime and have a life maybe she could join a social club, have a few girlfriends, or volunteer with different community organizations. I do not think a woman should have to be the primary bread- winner, the primary caregiver to the children, and still do most of the cooking and cleaning. Some women have to be the primary breed winners. If a woman is left alone to take care of her children she have no choice but to become the primary bread-winner, the primary care giver, and do…

The general consensus of a woman today is no longer confined to the home as a housekeeper and mother taking care of her children. Great strides have been made for women. Today, women are CEOs, hold political offices, business owners, police officers, and much more. Not only are women all of these, but they continue to be the mother and housekeeper as well. They are not simply seen as the weaker sex, but are now seen as intellectually equal to their male counterparts. In some instances, the roles have been reversed in this modern age and some women are the wage earners of the family and the male is the housekeeper and…

There are many arguments in favor of equality amongst men and women. In the past women were seen as the homemakers, that there was no need to educate them and there was clearly no place in the workforce for their sex. “The time when girls needed no education, because all they had to do was to pick one of a troop of suitors, marry him, keep house for him, and live on his wages, is gone forever, for the very simple reason that no woman can consistently live on a man’s wages any more (Kimmel and Mosmiller, 1992: 178-179).” Early in this nations history, men were viewed as the breadwinners; it was very seldom that one would see a woman in the workplace. As the years have progressed however, there has been a steady shift towards a society where just as many women are working as men. It has also become more common to see stay at home dads.…

First, I am a mother and a wife, a woman. As of right now I am what society sees as the norm for a mother and wife role. My Husband goes to work and I stay home and take care of our two small children. I cook, clean, and make sure everything is overall always in order at home. While I feel like this is expected because my husband works, I do still think that if I did too, or only, or if he did not, that I would still typically be expected to maintain the household and the children. While some can see this as an advantage, there are also cons. Such as, woman are seen as weaker, and/or easier targets. Also, there are somethings that are so much easier for men, like being uneducated and still being able to get and rise statuses within a job.…

The fact of this is: it is society that has carried the trend of the mother being the nurturer and the father being the worker. While this may be daunting to many women, it is not a required fact of life. Women can be the people working while the men are at home nurturing. This old tradition acts as another “phantom” women must surmount in order for them to become prominent figures in the workplace.…

It wasn’t until recently that women began to gain equal rights as men and seem as an equal. Traditional role of women is to be domesticated, be a good wife, bore children, and stay home to cook and clean. These societal ideas were deeply rooted in us since the past. Although women that are mothers are still expected to take care of their children and take care of the household, mother are not expected to be stay at home mothers. These changes in societal ideals are recent and it was not until the 1940s did the life patterns of women truly changed. (Yalom)…

In the time after World War II many people believed in a very idealistic idea of what the world should be. They believe that even potential parents should be skills in parenting and trained to be a good parent. (Pg. 412) All of these potential needs parents may need one day sound like a great idea, if you wanted to be a wife and mother and happy homemaker. Many women of this time had enjoyed "an education identical with that of her brother" and " expect to be allowed to select any kind of work for which she has inclination and training...and expects to marry." (Pg. 412) This was the real beginning of the modern working women. These forward thinking women enjoyed freedom their own mothers and grandmothers had only previously dreamed of. These modern women could decide where to live, when and who to marry and whether to stay married as well as…

    Gender Roles

Society has many expectations on men; men are supposed to be brave and stronger than woman. An article on The Social Roles of Men and Women states “It is not enough for a man to be male; he also has to appear masculine.” People believe that men should be bold, strong, and powerful but that’s not always the case. Men should act the way they want! Just because society or their parents expect them to be masculine doesn’t mean they have to. Another example from The Social Roles of Men and Women adds “Traditionally, fathers teach boys how to fix and build things.” I’m sure everyone expects men to teach their sons how to fix or build things. Some fathers don’t even follow this concept with their sons. Sometimes when these kids grow up and don’t know how to build or fix things there are looked at differently as if they are worthless. Moreover from a different article Gender and Society says "Men have always been afraid that women could get along without them." This quote is basically stating that men think that women can live without them, when in reality they can. Men are afraid of this because they believe that women should stay home, keep the house clean and have dinner waiting for them once they come back from work. Men shouldn’t be afraid that women can be independent; I think it’s great that women can be independent and not rely on anyone but themselves.…

For as long as human behavior has been documented there have been strict ideals of the different gender roles in parenting. These hunter and gatherer derived gender roles have basically defined what the correct social roles for men and women are. “According to Katherine Macklem (2004), women’s participation in the labor force has created a work verses family dilemma.” (Brannon: 327). This makes sense but is only the half-truth. Men’s changing participation in child caretaking and homemaking needs to be addressed as well.…
