Media ownership and control is something that everyday American’s don’t think about on a daily basis. The fact that there are events happening that we will never see or hear about never crosses our minds. We depend on the fact that we live in a free country and that we will be told what’s going on because the government doesn’t control the media like other countries do… Right? Few things come to light that show us we in fact, don’t see everything and we don’t get the whole story, but why? We are told what they all want us to hear and see what they all want us to see, just without our consent.
Media ownership is something that citizens show little concern about. The fact that all of the news in the US is basically owned by fewer than 10 huge corporations isn’t even known to most of us. This is a problem when it comes to the fact that our freedom as a democracy is being limited by what they want us to see. Our job as a responsible citizen in this country is to be involved in the politics in various degrees. Some may be more active than others and that is alright, but for us as a whole we have to be properly educated on what is going on and what the people running our country is doing. That is a part of our freedoms we fight for and we are not living up to our responsibilities. I asked a couple of my friends who either just took government or are taking it at a different location, about their opinions on controlled media and they really had the same look on things. The only problem I had is that they all agreed that the some news is not shared the way it should be and it is kept from the American people. Two of them said they always go and try to see what the other sources of media are saying and they don’t even listen to the “Big Media” stations anymore due to the fact they feel like there is always more they aren’t telling us.
