Methods of Evangelism
Part ONE - Evangelistic Method #1
Summary of the method – Most agree that the Romans Road began with the Fundamental Baptist movement. However, according to Dr. Don Howe, RN, PhD, ThD, who is also a contributor to allexperts.com, it was actually Jack yles, Hyles, an evangelist, who during a sermon in 1970, at Hammond First Baptist Church termed a this plan of salvation “The Roman Road”, he claims he heard the actual originating sermon. According to “Evangelism Is…” written by Earley and Wheeler, the Romans Road Method is simply using verses from the book of Romans to explain the Good News. The verses explain why we need salvation, how God planned salvation, how to receive salvation and the results of salvation.
Advantages of using this method – The advantages of using the Roman Road Method are that it is completely Scripturally based. It has been effectively used by many individually as well as organizations to open dialogue and bring many to the Lord.
Disadvantages of using this method – David Cloud wrote in “The Way of Life” Publications that “Some believe that though it (Romans Road) presents salvation it doesn’t speak to the manner of life.” Tony L. Tuberville with the Elijah Project feels that it is lacking critical instruction concerning sin. Though some do have their criticisms concerning this Evangelist method, there is no perfect method, and not one method can claim to be the be all and end all of all salvation methods. It is one of many important tools at our disposal.
Part TWO – Evangelistic Method #2
Summary of the method – “Intentionally combining both proclamation and affirmation over a period of time through a friendship relationship.” As lifestyle evangelism is defined in “Evangelism Is…” Is a little more intimate than J.D Payne’s interpretation in his book “Evangelism, A Biblical Responsible Response To Today Questions.” that states; “True Lifestyle Evangelism
