The short story “ A Possibility of Evil” takes place in a small, silent, peaceful town. In this quiet town lives a woman in her seventies named ms. Strangeworth. She is well known thru put her community for her dazzling rose garden, many people in the town seem to respect her. On the exterior ms. Strangeworth seems kind but in actuality she is an extremely judgmental and a nosy woman who thinks she owns the town. Mrs. Strange worth writes anonymous letters to the towns’ people telling them what she really thinks about them and exposing secrets that aren’t hers to tell. She seems to justify her actions by claiming that she’s removing the “wickedness from her town”. But one day in a sudden turn of events she accidently dropped one of her anonymous letters and a boy saw it and delivered it. Soon people discovered that it was her, who was sending the wicked anonymous letters. In the end ms. Strangewoth’s precious roses ended up paying the price for her evil deeds when the town destroys them as a form of revenge. Ms. Strangeworth is a very judgmental, selfish and fake person because of all her wicked actions.
Miss. Strangeworth shows how judgmental she can be throe out the story. For example while she was grocery shopping she ran into Martha Harper and started thinking about how old and tired she looked. She even thought she needed a tonic and assumed something wrong was going on with her. Mrs. Strangeworth even had the nerve to tell Mrs. Harper “you don’t look well” to which ms. Harper responded “I’m perfectly all right” but ms strangeworth was still judging her and insisted something was wrong with her.
Mrs. Strangeworth also demonstrates selfishness repeatedly thru out the story. Like for instance when she mentions that her family founded the town and that her grandfather should have a statue instead of
