Chester Nez was born in Chichiltah in the Navajo Nation walking from 15-20 miles to the grass for their sheep. But you didn’t hear any complains from the Navajo, they have their own little peaceful time. It was about collaborating and sharing. Even though it was a daily routine for them, the population of the livestock grew bigger. In that being said, the federal government than past on a livestock-reduction policy because the sheep were destroying the land by overgrazing. He remembered his Grandma cried that night because more than half of her sheep were dead. When he turned 18, the Marines came to his school. Pearl Harbour had been attacked, the Americans needed more men. The U.S. Marines were looking for a noteworthy type of guy. They got the answer, it had to be the Navajo Indians. Chester Nez was one of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers and those 29 original Code Talker were informed of their mission to make an unbreakable code. They devised a code that was the only unbroken code in modern warfare. A connection between Louie Zamperini and Chester Nez is that they both had an unexpected mission. For example Louie is an Olympian, his goal is to break record and wins medal. Chester Nez is just an ordinary Navajo Indians and he faces hardship about his culture and heritage outside of his home. Everythings for them came too fast for them to realize about their past. A question I have for Chester is “Did he see the sheep burned up in the trenches, if he did. How would he describe about what happen at that time. At the Presentation there was a simple powerful saying he says that I would never thought anyone would say. The question was What is one of your most memorable moment you have, “ One of my most memorable moment was herding sheep. said Nez” This tell me that he really care about his grandma’s sheep and that it was a big part of his life. Another question I would as him is, Did he learned anything he thought he would never learned when he went to war?”…

Stuck with excess inventory, Neptune Gourmet Seafood is toying with the idea of launching a second, inexpensive product line. But if Neptune stoops to conquer, rivals might retaliate with price cuts, and the new line might end up cannibalizing the old. HBR's cases, which are fictional, present common managerial dilemmas and offer concrete solutions from experts. JIM HARGROVE'S startled expression would have been amusing had he not been in such a pitiable state. He was standing in the yacht's magnificently appointed galley, wondering if his stomach would be able to hold down the cola he was pouring into a crystal flute, when his colleague, Rita Sanchez, said something outrageous. Now the drink had spilled down the length of his pleated khakis, and he was sputtering. "You aren't seriously suggesting that we reduce prices by 50%. Are you?” It had been a long day for Hargrove, marketing director of $820 million Neptune Gourmet Seafood, North America's third-largest seafood producer. When the firm's chairman and CEO, Stanley Renser, had invited his senior managers to sail with him to inspect one of Neptune's new freezer trawlers, Hargrove had demurred. He hated sailing on small boats-they made him sick, he told his boss. Renser had pointed out that the 120-foot yacht he owned wasn't exactly small. Besides, Poseidon II never rolled, even in a storm; the renowned Tommaso Spadolini had designed it. In fact, it was one of the last boats built by Italy's famous Tecnomarine boatyard! Eventually, Renser had won him over, and Hargrove had arrived that Friday morning as eager to see the yacht as he was to visit one of the state-of-the-art fishing vessels on which Neptune had bet its future. Hargrove hadn't felt seasick all morning. There were no swells that day. Flat and glassy, the ocean glittered in shades of turquoise, silver, and gold. Aboard the freezer trawler, he had been fascinated by the technologies that allowed the vessel to catch fish in an environ- mentally…

The widely popular children’s movie Finding Nemo, directed by Andrew Stanton, follows the heroic journey of a father through a great deal of obstacles as well as triumphs while on his journey to reunite with his son. His quest follows the same pattern as every other heroic journey throughout time; the universal monomyth. The key components that allow the universal monomyth to be seen throughout Finding Nemo are the basic steps of the hero myth, the different archetypes that characters fit perfectly to, and the universal themes that are visible throughout the movie.…

An archetype is a symbol that appears in literature, but there are also generalized patterns of archetypes that can be found through time and across cultures. When we study literature, these symbolic threads can be seen in plot elements, the setting or background, and/or character development. The development of these characters in a work of literature may be done on an unconscious level by the author, the author may recognize a pattern in work and further build upon it--to accomplish a desired dramatic effect. The film I decided to write about as an example is Nemo, the Disney motion picture.…

    Négritude

    • 1578 Words
    • 7 Pages

The concept of Négritude emerged as the expression of a revolt against the historical situation of French colonialism and racism. The particular form taken by that revolt was the product of the encounter, in Paris, in the late 1920's, of three black students coming from different French colonies: Aimé Césaire (1913–2008) from Martinique, Léon Gontran Damas (1912–1978) from Guiana and Léopold Sédar Senghor (1906–2001) from Senegal. Being colonial subjects meant that they all belonged to people considered uncivilized, naturally in need of education and guidance from Europe, namely France. In addition, the memory of slavery was very vivid in Guiana and Martinique. Aimé Césaire and Léon Damas were already friends before they came to Paris in 1931. They were classmates in Fort-de-France, Martinique, where they both graduated from Victor Schoelcher High School. Damas came to Paris to study Law while Césaire had been accepted at Lycée Louis Le Grand to study for the highly selective test for admission to the prestigious École Normale Supérieure on rue d'Ulm. Upon his arrival at the Lycée on the first day of classes he met Senghor who had already been a student at Louis le Grand for three years.…

    Negritude

The historical origins of Negritude can be traced to the various forms of cultural expression in the French Caribbean that find their roots in the African continent, practices that were transmogrified by the experience of the Middle Passage and slavery. Like the North American spirituals first championed in The Souls of Black Folk, by W. E. B. Du Bois, a variety of arts and practices served as refuges for Afro-Caribbean pride and African culture: the dances called calenda, bamboula, and laghia; the drumming and songs of the bel-air, Gwoka, and lewoz; Creole culinary arts; the Kric-Krac folktales; and the multitude of practices arising from Hatian Vodou. Forced underground by the violence and racism of slavery, this proto-Negritude manifested itself less as overt, self-proclaimed affirmation than through the concrete, positive production of cultural, religious, and aesthetic practices. In addition, black slaves at times responded to the threat of annihilation with self-affirmation in the form of overt resistance: feigned laziness, ignorance or incompetence, theft, poisoning of animals and burning of buildings, escape into maroon communities, and organized revolts (Slave Rebellions in Latin America and the Caribbean).…

    Go Negosyo

The true purpose of the youth summit “Go Negosyo” according to Joey Concepcion (founder of Go Negosyo) was to inculcate to the youth the right mindset in putting/starting up a business. We must have the right values to be possessed. According to Atty. Felipe Gozon, current chief executive and chair of GMA Network Inc., one of the largest media networks in the Philippines, an entrepreneur must have a positive work attitude and starts with the youth. He said that we are lawyers by professions. The most economically progressive countries are the China and the United States. He shared his experiences being an entrepreneur. An entrepreneur according to him must realize his/her prorioties. He/she must have the courage and willingness to get out of his comfort zone and don’t just be contented on what he/she had. One of his inspiring message was “We do what we say, and we say what we do”. We must face the challenges. Somebody may think something better for the following day. If you manage to find yourself at the top, don’t just be contented by it, continue to embrace change. Somehow, there is a better way on doing such things. Always remember, there is someone who can able to do things you do at better manners. Take courage in every failure, what matters is that don’t lose your lesson. These are the things I have learned from him.…
