When most individuals are having a bad day all they want to do is just get up and walk away from what they are doing. They just want to escape this harsh reality, but what if every day was a bad day and with each day passing things just kept getting worse and worse and you could never escape no matter how hard you tried. In the memoir "Night", the author Elie Wiesel faces a series of tragic events that forced him to starve to death, work to death and to make sure neither his father or himself was put up for selection. To dehumanize means to treat someone like an animal or to encourage him or her to behave like an animal, to take away all the good human qualities such as friendship, trust, and kindness and to strip someone of their rights and freedoms. The theme of dehumanization by the Nazis to the Jews was expressed in Elie Wiesel’s novel "Night". Elie Wiesel expressed the Nazi’s dehumanization of the Jews with brutal actions. These brutal actions led Elie and the other Jewish people to undergo drastic changes. The Jews were forced to endure treacherous conditions, even when weak. In this situation, the Jews were conveyed in cattle cars to concentration camps. Clearly, the Nazis had neither appreciation nor respect for the value of Jewish life. The Jews were so badly treated that it made them behave like beasts due to lack of food and water. The Nazis purposely failed to provide the Jews with sufficient supplies. At one point it was almost as if the Jews are no longer human. Elie Wiesel compares the cry of a Jew to that of a beast. "A cry rose from the wagon, the cry of a wounded animal, someone had just died” (Page.97) To the Jews death was no longer grieved upon, but instead looked upon as a benefit.
