There is something special about experiencing something yourself. You can then tell somebody about it and really know what you are talking about. You are then more credible. When you tell someone something from experience, that person will recognize that you know what you are talking about.
See, I accepted Christ at the age of thirteen. My Grandparents were believers, and so are my parents. I have had about God all my life. Nevertheless, I was determined to do things my way. People can tell you about God, but there is nothing like knowing Him yourself. I had heard of Him but I did not know Him. I went to church sometimes. But I did not read the Bible. “When you read it you are listening to God’s word, for the Bible is God’s word.” (Towns, p17)
After several years of being beaten up by life I finally realized, my way was not working for me. I remember crying out to God, “God if you are real I need you to help me.” I said, “If you are not, I am going to take something to get me out of this misery.” Immediately, I heard someone say, “God loves you.” It was James Robison, on TV. With tears running down my face, I began to listen to Him. I do not remember what else he said, but it was like God was talking to me Himself. After that I began to read the Bible. I wanted to know as much as I could about God, and my life has never been the same. That is why the words, “He filled his empty mind with the transforming word of Jesus…” Towns, p16) were relatable to me. Because of these reasons, I chose the pragmatic test of experience.
