REACTION PAPER
Francis Angelo C. Erigbuagas

The “Tuwid na Daan” is a phrase by President Benigno S. Aquino III, repeatedly mentioned on his 3rd SONA last July 23, pertaining to his governance and direction for the country.

The basic concept of “Tuwid na Daan” is the battle cry “Kung Walang Corrupt, Walang Mahirap.” He vows to end culture of ‘wang-wang’ as also the end of the corruption. His administration believes that corruption is the root cause of the country‘s grief, and eliminating corruption will lead to renewed investor confidence, eventual growth and development, poverty reduction, and attainment of peace.

The “Tuwid na Daan”, does not only pertain to the President‘s anti-corruption campaign. It also encompasses a way of doing things right, where the process is participatory; the programs are general; growth is sustained; the peace policy is broad; and development is sustainable. Through the living examples of our leaders, led by the President, this re-awakened sense of right and wrong continues to be translated to economic value.

President Aquino’s government lines up new legislative measures for people’s benefit. He laid the foundations for a clean, transparent, and responsive government. Providing quality service lanes to the provision of frontline services, Addressing abuses and irregularities in government agencies, Increasing Civil Society Participation in Governance.

President Aquino also vows to defend country’s territory, sovereignty, He pursued AFP reforms and modernization in the AFP, as well as promote the morale and welfare of the Armed Forces. A Joint Maritime Force is being restructured to carry out missions in the West Philippines Sea to protect vital resources and sea exploration activities. At the same time, initiatives are being made to revive the Air Defense Organization focused on the airspace of priority areas in western Philippines.

    * Being the leader of a country, a President’s decision can greatly affect the present situation that the country is facing. Whatever decision he makes can sum up his abilities towards leading his people. It influences the people with the President’s decision in terms of support or disapproval. Support in the sense that if he’s decisions are acceptable for the people or group of people, he gets endorsed and applaud for the validity of his action. Disapproval in the sense that if it is denied by the people, the President is subject for explanation, he is also vulnerable for mockery among his people.
