I have chosen a poem by E. E. Cummings that’s called “I Carry Your Heart”.
The reason why I have chosen this particular poem is because the first time I read it, I was completely absorbed by it. It described just how I feel about a special person. I love the way E. E. Cummings writes. The way he manages to come out with words in such a sweet and lovely way just makes me happy. This is the poem:
I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart) I am never without it (anywhere
I go you go, my dear, and whatever is done
By only me is your doing, my darling)
I fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) I want
No world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
And it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
And whatever a sun will always sing is you
Here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
I carry your heart ( I carry it in my heart)
The poem is a love letter. The poem is written for a person who he/she really likes.
The poem is about a person that always will be a part of him/her, but also in his/hers heart. We can see it in this quote: “I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart)”.
The feelings there are in this poem are much love feelings. These words E. E. Cummings has chosen to use, are very kind and sweet words. He uses words as: my dear, beautiful, my true. And it is words like these I associate with kind and sweet words. When somebody uses emotions like these, it makes the readers feel the loving mood which the poet has put into the poem. We get touched and glad when reading about feelings like these.
This poem has four stanzas of for verses, except in the last two stanzas of which there are five in the penultimate and one verse in the last. There is not really a rhythm in this poem,
