Due to rising gas prices store policy on employee work hours will be changing. Because of this problem store hours will be amended to cut back on company expenses. To remedy this problem, stores will now be closed on Sundays. Also, work days will be shortened by 2-hours a day, the store will be opening one hour later and closing one hour earlier on Monday through Saturday. For full time employees and managers workweeks will be changing from the usual 8 hour work days, five days a week to 10-hour days four days a week. I understand that the extended days aren’t all that appetizing but not only will it benefit the company but it will also benefit you. By working extended days this benefits you by being able to cut down on the amount of days you commute to work therefore cutting down on the amount of money spent on gas and it will allow for more personal time which can be spent with family and friends.…

For this project my task was to create a few pages of a new magazine aimed at teenagers aged 13-19 years old, of either or both sexes. I needed to include a front page and a double page spread, with at least 3 original images. To begin with I researched the forms and conventions of magazines in the media. I found out a lot about the layout of the magazines, for example, a lot of magazines all have the same basic layout, which is often repeated throughout all major genres of magazines. After researching the forms and conventions of magazines in general, I then went on to research other details of magazines that would influence my decisions later on in the planning stage. I began by brainstorming a large list of all the genres available to the public at the moment, which was narrowed to the ones suitable for my market. This gave me a list of approximately eight genres, including fashion and gaming. I next began research with the public to discover a little more about my target audience, for example, what it is they expect from a magazine and what it is that draws their attention towards them. I started with a questionnaire, and made sure it was only handed to people within the age group specified in the brief, to ensure my results were as relevant and accurate as possible. I decided to aim my magazine at girls and base it on fashion/style and gossip, so I did some further research into this. I also collected together some magazine covers and analysed and evaluated them to help me to come up with an idea for my magazine. Finally, I completed other research work, including mind maps and tallies of ideas which I felt needed to be chosen by the audience, to come up with the magazine which I felt was the most suitable and could be the most successful with my audience. Overall, the research I conducted was very useful and had very strong influences to every decision I made. During this process of…

The beginning of high school I was a seed in English class. I was not particularly good at English and had doubts on whether I should ask the teacher to move me down to the college prep class. Just like a seed, I was a plain little student sitting in an honors class. Maybe from last year’s English class, I was fully aware my writing was not anything special. That was what I thought because I compared myself to my friends, but for sure, one thing I was positive was that writing was my strength in English rather than vocabulary and reading comprehension. With a portfolio with all my past essays in front of me on my desk, I flipped through it. I noticed that my essays were not well-organized, and I had trouble with structuring my essays. However, at the same time, I saw that I had a variety of transitions, and clear topic sentences. The topic sentences were not creative because it was in a basic format, but I knew she could work on that the upcoming year. Thanks to the portfolio that my teacher handed out at the start of the school year, I was able to realize that my writing can change and believed that if I put time and effort through the year, my writing may become a flower one day and bloom beautifully. I sat down in that classroom, day after day, learning new ways to improve. Eventually, almost a year of 9th grade passed.…

Here we study the performance of a one-period investment X0 > 0 (dollars) shared among several different assets. Our criterion for measuring performance will be the mean and variance of its rate of return; the variance being viewed as measuring the risk involved. Among other things we will see that the variance of an investment can be reduced simply by diversifying, that is, by sharing the X0 among more than one asset, and this is so even if the assets are uncorrelated. At one extreme, we shall find that it is even possible, under strong enough correlation between assets, to reduce the variance to 0, thus obtaining a risk-free investment from risky assets. We will also study the Markowitz optimization problem and its solution, a problem of minimizing the variance of a portfolio for a given fixed desired expected rate of return.…
