Position of Women in India compared to other nations
Closed
Though women are given reservations in many sectors, but we lack in providing safety measures to women when compared with other countries. The attitude towards women must be changed. Severe punishment must be given to culprits who indulge in crimes. This is the main point where we lack when compared with other nations. In Arab countries if any person commits heinous crime like rape, he is given capital punishment or severe punishment is given depending upon the crime he has done. In India, we don’t have any such law. Either fine will be charged or he will be put in jail for 3-4 months. Will this fine be the correct punishment for the culprit??? The law must be changed; punishment must be made severe, so that no other person even thinks of committing such crimes against women

I don't agree with you if you are thinking that judicial system of our country. As per my knowledge the minimum charge is for 5 years imprisonment with fine, but it also depends on circumstances if found more severe the charges may lead to life imprisonment or even to death. Our country is not so much developed as compared to other.

Crime in our country is still very high though as women we have always been respected and had an equal hand either visibly or in an invisible way! We have Goddesses whom we worship . We have had a woman prime minister. We have women in every field of work and at the highest levels but somewhere there is more that can be done.

Living in the United States we've seen women come a long way. Women couldn't vote or play specific sports, we saw more men having cooperate jobs than we did women. However a lot has changed over the years. Today there more women doctors, lawyers, governors, and senators. Last year a woman even ran for president. In the United States everyone is seen equally for the most part, we all have the same opportunities, and there is no gender barrier to hold a person back from pursuing their dreams. But this has been to true for every woman in the past. Women faced a lot of problems that prevent them from any improvement. However there are still a lot of factors that have led…

No matter how much we deny it, the truth remains that the women of our society experience the same problems that the women in the Arab world do. One may argue and say that India is developing and moving forward and women are no longer treated as inferiors but is this really the case? Aren’t we forming our opinion based on how we, as individuals, are treated? Look at the millions of women in the villages. Those women face the cruelty of the male dominance till date. Female feticide, infanticide, premature marriages, honor killings, the practice of ‘sati’ are common sights in the villages of our country. One of the increasing atrocities against women is that of rape. Every single day tens of women in our country are raped and there is very little that the system is doing to protect the women against these crimes. It is nauseating to read about how brutally the women are treated for no fault of…

Women in India are beginning to follow the direction that the women of the Western world took more than eighty years ago; demanding treatment as human equals. However, it has become more and more evident as the revolution ages that Indian women may have to adapt the Western feminist method to their very traditional and religious culture. India has different complications that put the development of women in a completely altered context than their Western counterparts. Although the key targets remain similar: improvement of health care, education and job opportunities in order to gain equality between men and women in the various settings of public society, the workplace, the school yard and – possibly the most fundamental setting of all – the home. Women are striving to be independent on the equal level of men. The additional complexities that the women of India must also challenge are the caste system, the heavy religious customs, older and more traditional roles of the sexes, as well as the even stronger power that men hold in India. The status was at one time accepted, but with the Western women’s revolution and perception, the role is slowly succeeding in its development through both independent groups of women and national and worldwide organizations based on the goal of gaining equality. They have all accomplished much, but have yet to overthrow the male dominated society.…

In a survey conducted it was learnt that out of 12 million girl child’s born only 1/3 of them get to live. Some are killed in the womb, some at the time of birth and some due to ill health and poor nutrition. These girls grow up to be women who are given no respect, no opportunity; they are not given half the things they deserve. Our country has always been an active participant in evil practices against women, whether it was sati, parda system or the devadasis who were sexually exploited and if these practices have stopped the problem of rape, acid throwing, dowry system, Female infanticide and sex-selective abortion , human trafficking, forced prostitution etc. etc. This list just goes on and on. To my dear opponents who claim that India is changing the status of women that that these so called policies and agendas for helping women have been introduced and that the condition of women is improving to them I’ll ask that if this is the case then why is India is today the fourth most dangerous country for women to live in, this shows that the condition not improving but only…
