MATH133 Unit 4: Functions and Their Graphs
Individual Project Assignment: Version 2A
IMPORTANT: Please see Question 3 under Problem 2 for special instructions for this week’s IP assignment. This is mandatory.
Show all of your work details, explanations, and answers on the Unit 4 IP Answer Form provided. Problem 1: Children’s Growth years (144 months) has shown the following two equations. The function ℎ ? is the radical

A study of the data representing the approximate average heights of children from birth to 12 function representing the girls’ heights in inches after x months, and the function ℎ ? is the radical

function representing the boys’ heights in inches after x months (0 ≤ ? ≤ 144 months).
? = ℎ ? (?) = 3.08√ ? + 18.97

? = ℎ ? (?) = 2.87√ ? + 20.08

1. Choose five different values of x between 0 and 144 months, and calculate the values of each of of ? = ℎ ? (?) and ? = ℎ ? (?) in “t-tables” in the Answer Form supplied.

these functions for the chosen x values. Show all of your work and display these calculated values

2. Use these five different values of x and the corresponding calculated values of both functions, together with Excel or another graphing utility, to draw the graphs of these two functions. These graphs should be drawn on the same coordinate system so that the two functions can be easily compared. Insert those graphs into the Answer Form.
3. Set the two functions equal to each other, and solve the resulting radical equation for x. This value of x will be the age in months when boys and girls are the same height. (Show all of the steps for solving this radical equation on the Answer Form provided.)
4. What is the height in inches when boys and girls (according to these radical functions) are the same height? (Show all of your work on the Answer Form provided.)
5. What would be the average change in height for each of these radical functions between x = 25 and x = 36 months? (Show all of your work on the

This file MAT 222 Week 3 Assignment Real World Radical Formulas contains solutions to the following tasks: 1.103. Sailboat stability. To be considered safe for ocean sailing, the capsize screening value C should be less than 2 (www.sailing.com). For a boat with a beam (or width) b in feet and displacement d in pounds, C is determined by the function. a).Find the capsize screening value for the Tartan 4100, which has a displacement of 23,245 pounds and a beam of 13.5 feet. b). Solve the equation for d. 2.104. Sailboat speed. The sail area-displacement ratio S provides a measure of the sail power available to drive a boat. For a boat with a displacement of d pounds and a sail area of A square feet S is determined by the function a)Find S to the nearest tenth for the Tartan 4100, which has a sail area of 810 square feet and a displacement of 23,245 pounds. b) Write d in terms of A and S.…

    Iris wants to graph the invasive snail population to show the city council. Justify what the appropriate domain and range would be for the function f(x), what the y-intercept would be, and if the function is increasing or decreasing. F(x) = 150(1 + .5)x Let’s plug in some values for x! Earlier Iris mentioned that she observed the snail’s growth for 15 years. So we can graph the population of the snails for all 15 of those years using the exponential function we made earlier. Starting at year 0, and ending at year 15. F(0) = 150(1 + .5)0 F(0) = 150(1.5)0 F(0) = 150(1) F(0) = 150 This means that at year 0, or the beginning, the snail population was 150. Now all we have to do is the same thing for year 1 to year 15. These should be our results: F(0) = 150 F(1) = 225 F(2) = 337 F(3) = 506 F(4) = 759 F(5) = 1139 F(6) = 1708 F(7) = 2562 F(8) = 3844 F(9) = 5766 F(10) = 8649 F(11) = 12974 F(12) = 19461 F(13) = 29192 F(14) = 43789 F(15) = 65684 What those mean is after 15 years [f(15)], the population of invasive snails is 65, 684. Now that we know what these represent and their values we can start to set their ordered pairs and plot them on a coordinate plane. These are the ordered pairs: (0, 150) (1, 225) (2, 337) (3, 506) (4, 759) (5, 1139) (6, 1708) (7, 2562) (8, 3844) (9, 5766) (10, 8649) (11, 12974) (12, 19461) (13, 29192) (14, 43789) (15, 65684) The domain for this function would be 0≤x≤15 and the range for this function is 150≤y≤65684. The y-intercept of this function is…

This week we learned about Radical Formulas and how this can be applied in our everyday lives. Radicals seem very complicated at first, but because we have learned so much already, it is just taking what we already know and apply it to the problem that we have been assigned. I have been asked to work a problem 103 and 104 on pages 605 and 606 of our math book Elementary and Intermediate Algebra. We are going to break out each step to show how we came to our answer. By breaking out our problems, we will have a better understanding of the solving radical formulas.…

Our assignment is to solve problem 103 on page 605, parts a and b, and problem 104 on page 606, both a and b, of our text book, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra. The assignment revolves around sail boat stability and speed. The formulas we will use can give you a good starting point in planning your craft and journey if used wisely. Knowing the restrictions of a ship’s stability and maximum speed is important in real world applications. It can be applied to the design of everyday sail boats and racing boats to ensure the safety of these craft. A formula along these lines can also be used for pleasure yachts, cruise ships, and cargo craft. Knowing the stability and speed of your craft is important to safety as you will know if the sea is rough if you can navigate it safely. This also applies to the aforementioned larger craft as they can decide whether to plot a course around heavy seas or proceed as originally scheduled. The speed of the craft can be used to determine how long it will take to reach your destination. Of course there will be many other variables that would need to be taken into account, like weight of cargo or anything else you may be carrying, but it will give you a good starting point for your journey.…

Radical formulas are used in many fields of the real world; some examples are in finance, medicine, engineering, and physics. These are just a few. In the finance department they use it to find the interest, depreciation and compound interests. In medicine it can be used to calculate the Body Surface of an adult (BSA), in engineering it can be used to measure voltage. These formulas are vital and important to the people working in these fields of work. Our week 3 assignment requires that we find the capsizing screening value for the Tartan 4100, solve the formula for variable of d, and find the displacement in which the Tartan 4100 is safe for ocean sailing. The problem is broken down into three parts.…
