Why did you become an officer? I wanted to become an officer because I loved the feeling of helping others. When I cant help someone I feel deeply about it, but I'd feel worse if I dont try, especially since people have always looked to me for help.
Was this your first choice of profession? This was not my profession of choice initially. It was more of something that I stumbled acrosss. I used to be in the marines and I loved it. I quit because my ex wife hated that I was gone for long periods of time. She threatened to divorce me if I didnt quit, which ironically she eventually divorced me anyways. I regret ever making that choice.
Was there anything that occured growing up to push you down this line of work? Not really, anything traumatic but I did grow up poor with ten siblings. We lived in Gary, Indiana and it was not an ideal situation. I did see somethings in my childhood that sort of baffled me. Things you never get used to which made me want to work hard to get out of that area.
How was life growing up? My life was rough growing up. We were poor and since there were so many of us we had to fight for attention. Some of my siblings to the wrong path in achieving this, such as having kids young or getting arrested, or even doing drugs. The rest of us of strived to achieve things in life.
What is the best part of this job? The best part of this job is helping citizens and the good feeling that you get at the end of the day.
What is the worst part of this job? As I stated earlier, the worst part is the feeling that I let someone down, especially if that person gets hurt in the process. It has happened a couple of times.
