National Aboriginal early childhood project – Series of lessons
This project is an initiative of the Aboriginal education directorate to develop learning and teaching programs for kindergarten and pre-primary school children. Drawing inspiration from picture books and informational texts, 13 integrated programs of work and 72 individual learning and teaching programs have been developed to support teachers to improve literacy and numeracy skills across the curriculum.
While much of the explicit teaching of literacy occurs in the English learning area, it is strengthened, made specific and extended in other learning areas as students engage in a range of learning activities with significant literacy demands.
