Dr. Blonz: Cooking destroys enzymes

There are enzymes in the metabolism of the plant while it’s alive. These plant enzymes can be destroyed by heat (cooking). But since these enzymes are just for plants, they don’t poison our bodies. The body makes its own enzymes, and the acidic stomach denatures the digestive enzyme, starts to breaking them down to their amino acid, prepare for absorption. Cooking make certain foods easier to digest and make certain plant nutrients more bioavailable for our bodies. Appropriate cooking “kills” anything that is alive in a food, but it does not poison our body.
Lactose is type of a carbohydrate presents in many dairy products, Lactase is the digestive enzyme needed to digest lactose. Lactose-intolerant occurs when the body does not produce sufficient amount of lactase (an enzyme) to digest lactose you had. If body had more lactose than handleable amount, symptoms of lactose-intolerant will be appeared. But a milk allergy is a specific sensitivity to milk protein, so lactose-intolerant and milk allergy are two different things.
Digestive enzymes are really important because they break down polymers to small building blocks; help our bodies to absorb nutrients. According to an article from ‘livestrong.com’, it says “Different enzymes break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats, and specific enzymes are needed for specific sugars.” This means there are many kinds of enzymes in our body, like protein. I believe that there are more enzymes that are not revealed.
We have learned about biomolecules, what they are made of, and a little about enzymes. This article would help me to understand better about enzymes, especially about digestive and lactose.
