I believe running the race means following God’s path set for my life. God gives each of us a choice to follow him or to choose to follow our own path throughout the course of our lives. Christian’s choose to run the race with a finish line in God’s kingdom. The path for this race has already been set for us through God’s word. Others, such as non-believers and those who have strayed from the path of the Lord, are running the race of their own will and have chose to follow a path that does not finish in God’s kingdom. Which race do you chose to run? The Bible teaches us good examples set by many people who have run the race of the Lord, but the one individual that inspires me the most is Jesus. Jesus lived his life faithfully for his father, despite the many challenges he had to overcome. In John 6:38 he said, “For I have come down from Heaven, not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.” Jesus spent his entire life focusing on and doing the will of God, and ran the race of his Father’s perfect will. He trusted and had faith in God. Jesus’ race required endurance, keeping his Father first in his life – and before himself, self-discipline, and desire and determination. His love for each of us and his father, won him the ultimate race – our freedom and our ability to finish the same race despite our sins. Jesus set the perfect example for how each of us should run the race in our lives. We look to him for direction, patience, perseverance, courage, and strength. He is there to guide us and show us the way, and all we have to do is ask. He provides us with all the tools we need to cross the finish line into his kingdom. In Galatians 5:1-8 Paul tells us, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by the yoke of slavery. Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be no value to you at all. Again I
