Respiration is a very important process for every living organism. While it is typically thought of as breathing in oxygen, and exhaling carbon dioxide, like all things, it must take place at the cellular level. The electron transport chain is responsible for cellular respiration. The process uses four complexes; the fourth is cytochrome c oxidase. Cytochrome C oxidase is responsible for the reduction of oxygen to water. There are thirteen subunits that make up the complete complex. Each of these is coded by its own gene in the DNA. Most of them are in the nuclear DNA; however three are encoded by mitochondrial DNA, including COX1 (Karp, 2010) (Li, Youfen et al.).…
There are multiple reasons in which I enlisted myself into the United States Army. Some of the reasons are to improve who I am as a person mentally and physically, move away from the place that I grew up in, and last but not least be able to one day look back on my life and say that I did something. So in this essay I will get into further details on to why the three main points as in to which I choose for this essay.…

Furthermore, what initially interested me in the naval service was my family's involvement in the military. Ever since I was a child, I was inspired to become a military officer knowing my father was a non-commissioned officer in the Coast Guard and when my sister commissioned into the Navy as an officer becoming head of the physician and medical department on Naval bases. I was then driven to pursue a similar ambition to strive towards serving my country in the Navy as a lifelong career. My father works for the Air Force and growing up around planes; I generated interest for flight and the science behind it. I want to receive education from one of the top rated engineering institutions in the…
It is a well known fact that a multitude of prominent people in history have gone down as either martyrs or terrorists. John Brown happens to be a murderous fanatic. I firmly believe that John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry did not have a remarkable impact on abolition. John brown risked his life as well as others. Brown also had nearly no support from slaves in his attempt to abolish slavery. Despite his efforts, and the reactions of the people in the nation he still underwent prosecution. Unfortunately, it is almost as if he died in vain.…
All my life I have wanted to be affiliated in the military. Four to five years ago I had very low self confidence in myself and others and not very great aspirations. My plan was to enroll in the marines after high school and attain my college education from the military. My primary aspiration for my life was to exceed the achievements of my mother, who didn't graduate high school. I wanted to be able to say if I could do it why couldn't you? My mind and heart were consumed by the dreadful thought of my brothers and how they would never have the opportunities that I have been blessed with. It wasn't until I had opened up to my uncle Derek who is a marine that I had a change of…
James Baldwin's "Notes of a Native Son" demonstrates his complex and unique relationship with his father. Baldwin's relationship with his father is very similar to most father-son relationships but the effect of racial discrimination on the lives of both, (the father and the son) makes it distinctive. At the outset, Baldwin accepts the fact that his father was only trying to look out for him, but deep down, he cannot help but feel that his father was imposing his thoughts and experiences on him. Baldwin's depiction of his relationship with his father while he was alive is full of loathing and detest for him and his ideologies, but as he matures, he discovers his father in himself. His father's hatred in relation to the white American society had filled him with hatred towards his father. He realizes that the hatred inside both of them has disrupted their lives.…
When I became a part of one of the Deer Park JROTC Cadets, I’ve never knew I would come to find happiness and enjoyment in the three years I spent growing with the other cadets. In the first year when I joined JROTC was unpredictable for me because I went from playing softball throughout my whole entire childhood into my freshman year to marching in formation as a JROTC cadet. The life lessons I learned from Chief Underwood and First Sergeant Harmon is always give my best of ability into my school work, extracurricular activities, and part-time jobs for a successful career. Because of these basic opportunities I’ve received in high school, I’ am more prepared for many obstacles in the real world compared to other kids that can’t go to school…
A hero, legend, great fighter and the most famous “Canadian Hero”, William Avery Bishop, best known as “Billy” Bishop, was a person who had great respect for his country and amazing talent. The history behind Bishops success in World War 1 is very unique, as there are many events surrounding this brilliant hero. With his brutal and dramatic battles in France, Billy Bishop was Canada’s top Ace who had a total of 72 victories within his enemy aircrafts. This led him to winning the respect of his enemies and inspiring a whole new generation of fighter pilots. However, although he is Canada’s best known war hero, he has not escaped controversy. Many people doubt that the presumed greatest flying ace lied about many of his 72 victories and the receiving of some of his awards. However, it is reasonable to argue the number of planes Bishop shot down throughout that terrible conflict is irrelevant. Many people regard Bishop as a hero simply because he continued to persevere for his dreams even through the many obstacles, he battled courageously for the sake of others peace and he achieved major accomplishments on and off the battlefields.…
The reason why I chose to major in Counseling Psychology is because I think it fits my skills in listening and talking with people along with a desire to help and see improvement in people’s lives. My desire to help others find this happiness and self-satisfaction within themselves stems from a satisfaction in uncovering and giving back to the patient the greatness within themselves that I know is always there. I want to join the Air Force after college because I’ve always wanted to protect my country and those I love. This desire to enter the military is because I come from a long line of veterans, police, and other civil servants, along with this the military has always seemed a good way to gain leadership skills and to gain a better appreciation for what my country provides. I also want to serve because if I decide to become a full-time counseling psychologist a military background would make it easier to relate to the experiences of patients who are veterans. Also, a degree in Psychology would allow me to assist and better understand those who would be under my command and reinforce a greater sense of unity with my fellow service…

To start the essay off id like to go over the "reason" that i am writing the essay to ensure you (the reader) that i know why i am writing it. When i raised my right hand on September 14th 2012 i was swearing into the U.S Army, which was pretty much me saying that i will obey by everything they want and need me to do. I went to basic training where i was taught many things, one of which was "Dress Right Dress" which pretty much means everything is the same. I learned that the army wants everything this way so that it doesn't look like a "Gaggle Fuck" as our sergeants like to put it. This is to ensure that when we don't have individuals here because as everyone here knows by now the army doesn't work when you try by yourself, but when you work as a team., so when i got to AIT and decided to put my shower shoes into my civilian bag i made a bad choice because i know that the order of our shoe display was "Boots, Dress shoes, Running Shoes, Shower Shoes." so when i made the choice to not have shower shoes i was pretty much saying F*** You to the rules and tired doing my own thing.…

Lorrie Moore writes some of the easiest and most rewarding short stories I have read. It was compelling and threw me right into the story as if I were recalling life experiences. She also has done a great deal of work in the writers field that is pretty interesting. But this, so far, is my personal favorite.…
