Oct. 26, 2012 Curb Records Analysis Curb Records, celebrating 50 years of running since its opening in 1963 by a man named Mike Curb. During that 50 years Mike Curb and Curb records have accumulated four hundred thirty two number one records, one thousand five hundred and fourteen top ten records , and four thousand five hundred and eighteen charted records resulting from being one of the most successful independent labels to come about. Through their early years in the running they worked with artists such as Eric Burdon & War, the Stone Poneys, Sammy Davis Jr., The Osmond Family, The Righteous Brothers, Exile, Solomon Burke, GLoria Gaynor, the Hondells, the Arrows, Roy Orbison, Shaun Cassidy, Debby Boone, the Electric Flag, the Sylvers, and the Four Seasons. In 1969 Curb had the great opportunity to join MGM records and have even more success with artists such as Kenny Rodgers, Hank Williams Jr., Don Gibson, Mel Tillis, Ray Stevens, and Eddy Arnold. A decade later moving into the 1980’s Curb Records was responsible for signing artists such as The Judds, Lyle Lovett, Don & Phil Everly, Desert Rose Band, Sawyer Brown, Jeffrey Steele’s band Boy Howdy, Ronnie McDowell, Hal Ketchum and The Righteous Brothers, and The Bellamy Brothers. As an independent record label they were doing very well in the 80’s. Going into the 90’s is when they really started to pick up. The main artist that made Curb Records much money would be Tim McGraw. By the twenty first century Curb had “one of the strongest country rosters in Nashville,” with artists such as Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Hank Williams Jr., Wynonna, Clay Walker, Rodney Atkins, Trick Pony, and LeAnn Rimes.[i] Strengths: The owner of Curb Records, Mike Curb, “is one of the most prominent figures in the music/entertainment world and presides over his own independent record label that is recognized as one of the most successful in music industry today.” When
