scholarship application example
Michael Walker

After graduating high school I plan of attending Joliet Junior College and getting two associate’s degrees, one in heavy equipment operating and one in Ag Mechanics. I would like to do this because it would make me more “valuable” to potential employers, by valuable I me that I would be able to handle large machines well and I also would be able to fix them if something goes wrong. These two skills are not things that most people do not get both of because it takes a very large about of skill and most people just do not have the patience to do so. I already have a few of these skills thanks to my high school and Craig Swartz and that is the reason I would like to pursue this idea, because I believe I could be very successful because I already have a leg up on most people.

This scholar ship could possibly mean the difference between me getting both of these degrees or only getting one of them because I will have to go to school for a longer than it usually takes to get an associate’s degree because of all of the training that I will be required to have. Also since I will have to attend school longer I will have more living expenses to pay for and this scholar ship could almost completely cover the cost for me to go to school and get the things that I have wanted for a very long time.

Thank you very much to whomever this letter may concern for even considering me as a candidate for this scholar ship.

As a humble alumna of Savannah State University, I believe I have much to achieve in life. Psychology as a whole has seen many major changes since it began. Take Sigmund Freud, the "Father of Modern Psychology", for instance. He was once the leading psychologist in the world, but now the majority of his ideas have been debunked or cast aside. Not too long ago, a large majority of psychologists were firmly rooted in the idea that a human being was a conglomeration of behaviors that could be changed through conditioning. To those psychologists, people were the sum of their behaviors. Today, behaviors are still important part of psychology, but much more emphasis is placed on thoughts and emotions.…

One of the most crucial issues facing women today is whether or not a woman is ready to run this country as President of the United States. Politics has always seemed to me to be a "boys club" mentality no matter where or when. There seems to be a thought process that women don't belong in politics because they are too nice, too innocent or too naive. There is even the notion by some men that women do not possess enough education to become a politician or that women do not possess the "kill or be killed" attitude that would come in handy, especially as President in a time of war or conflict.…

I didn’t realize it at the time but, I joined color guard to have a family. I wanted to be a part of something, belong somewhere. Growing up I never had a close relationship with anyone in my family except my mother who passed away when I was twelve years old. So a few years later when an older friend who was in guard told me “All the girls in guard are like my sisters, I love them and hate them all. We’re like a family.” I was immediately intrigued. I didn’t understand yet that I was looking for something to fill what was missing in my life. I was also desperate for somewhere to go after school, anywhere but home. The next week I went with her to practice; I was so nervous being terribly uncoordinated and awkward. However, I made friends quickly and really enjoyed spinning. I gained so many things that day. I got a whole support group of people to cheer me up when I’m down, upperclassmen to help me with homework and to show me that high school isn’t as scary as the movies make it seem, and friends for life that have my back better than anyone else I’ve ever known. Deciding to join that day was the best choice I’ve made so far.…

Now, as a kid I never really knew, always went back and forth with the idea of mechanical engineering. After the one night I saw a documentary on the Ford Mustang on Netflix, it clicked. Not only do I have the passion of cars and prior knowledge but the special connection to the Mustang. As said in the documentary, everyone has a Mustang story. I plan to accomplish this in a very goal specific path. For college, I plan to take courses on mechanical engineering while focusing on the automotive side. I believe the single most important societal problem we face today is that our generation thinks they should just be handed everything without having to work for it. This is a big problem because kids now that get everything they want. The kids that are like this are bound to fail when they get out in the real world. Our generation is going to grow up and not know what to do when a boss or supervisor tells them no because that’s what they’ve been use to all their lives. But I’m glad to say I’am not one of these people. I started working when I was fifteen umpiring at Chesterfield baseball fields. When I turned sixteen I picked up another job in the warehouse at CBennett Building Supplies to make more money. And now…

1/2. The degree I am seeking out and interested in is a degree in mechanical engineering. I am interested in this degree because I love mechanics and working with my hands. Mechanical engineers analyze problems, design mechanical devices to help with these problems, develop a prototype of the device and test it, and oversee the manufacturing of the device. I want to be in this field because of what they do, I want to build and work on machines. I would like to take the mechanical engineering degree and go into the automotive industry and design, build, and work on automobiles, and possibly set up my own auto body and restoration shop.…

In this age, which believes that there is a short cut to everything, the greatest lesson to be learned is that the most difficult way is, in the long run, the easiest. *Henry Miller {1891-1980 American Author} Goal setting has been a vital element in my life that has made me a strong and determined individual. It has made my educational career more life-like and desirable. My attendance at the University of San Diego was a dream (and almost miracle) realized through goal setting. But……this goal, as well as others, would never have been attained without the love and support from my family and surrounding community. The goal related stories that I heard from each and everyone of them, including my mother, my career center counselor, and several of my high school teachers encouraged me to realize my goal. I would also like to thank God, because His mercy is endless and my faith in Him, have kept me in the right path.…
