Studies show that there is no connection between uniforms and school safety or academic achievement. It is pointless for students to wear uniforms so they will be more focused and less violent. Many schools enforce uniforms because they think it makes students focus more on their work. Schools also enforce them because they think that letting students pick their own clothing will lead to gangs and violence. Gangs cannot be stopped just because the students have to wear school uniforms. It is not fair to the people who followed the dress code before the school got uniforms to try and stop violence. Uniforms do not help eliminate school violence, gangs, or help students learn.
Schools should not enforce uniforms because they violates a student’s right to freedom of speech. Uniforms even violate the First Amendment, because they take away the rights of freedom of expression and many people say that it can violate a student's First Amendment right to freely practice their religion. Two high school students sued after a school would not let them wear rosaries to school, because the school officials saw them as "gang-related" attire. Many kids use clothing as a way to express themselves. As long as student do not wear inappropriate clothing, there is no reason why they cannot wear what they want. People should be able to express themselves as individuals, and having to wear the same thing as everyone else, every day does not support that. School uniforms completely take away students
