Self-esteem and Senior Project Procrastination Essay Example
Psychology 250
October 10, 2007
Senior Project Procrastination is something that most people have done or experienced throughout schooling and life. I have done it through my entire schooling career. It is not worth the pain and stress some one puts themselves through but for some reason not a lot of people learn from there mistake. Whether its because people have low self esteem, or just don't care I don't know, but it's a hard habit to break. I commit this mistake all the time but brought procrastination to a new level my senior year of High School. I waited until the last few days to get it done and it showed in my presentation. This problem of waiting until the last minute to do things has followed me my whole life. I think I picked it up as a young child and have held on to it since. Its always made things very difficult, much more difficult then they should originally be. I have started to learn from this. The type of conditioning that this falls under would be operant. This is because I have learned from prior mistakes and changed the way I approach things, which has made things much easier. My senior year was made very difficult and stressful because of procrastination. This was a research project that was to be worked on over the whole. It required a mentor, interviews, a paper, a certain amount of hours, and a final presentation. I got the paper done in a short amount of time and figured I would be okay for a while. A while turned into waiting until the last three weeks of school. I ended up never getting a mentor but I finished the hours and the interviews, but it was very close. The stress I put my self was not worth the trouble. Also the end result did not meet my prior expectations I had for myself. I knew I could have done a lot better if I had rationed my time better, but I did not so I got the grade I deserved. This topic relates to a lot of things because in my opinion if you procrastinate on almost everything which I did, I believe you

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

The first term paper I was assigned stressed me out! I was so overwhelmed by the thought of having to write at a college level and how my professor, Ms.Kelly, was going to grade us by college standards. Although I was a nervous wreck, I scored a solid 80%. As I reviewed my actions taken towards completing the essay, I realized that I had waited till two days before the due date to start it and I didn’t feel confident in my thesis or essay layout. I remember making myself a mental note weeks before it was due to conference with my teacher for reassurance of the direction of which my essay’s focus was going however, I continuously procrastinate and pushed it to the back of mind. When I actually did start it, it was too late to make a conference. From that first essay I’ve learned a lot. Procrastination not only escalated my stress levels but hindered myself from performing at its most greatest capability, which could have earned me a higher score.…

Procrastination is one of the biggest reasons that a student does not have good academic success. Procrastination is defined as putting a certain task off until a certain deadline arrives. Such as, if a student has to have a report or speech done by a certain date and has known for three weeks but delays in getting it done until the day before it is due. Doing this usually results in a bad grade for that paper, which could bring the student’s overall grade down to not passing. In my own experience with this problem, I have found it is easier to just do the work after you find out it is due rather than waiting until the last day. Such as, I had a buddy in high school that would hear about the assignment and would delay in getting it done till the day it was due. Yet, he would complain that he never had enough time to do the work required to complete the assignment.…

I have always been a huge procrastinator. I would put off my schoolwork until the last minute and then cram it all the night before. And to top that off I was also a Yes-man so I would worry about my friends’ work rather than my own. Definitely not a good combination. You can obviously notice the lack of performance I showed, especially in my grades. I went from being a straight “A” student, to a “B and C” average. I didn’t pay much attention to it though because everyone else had the same problem as well. I was surrounded by procrastinators, leading me to think that what I was doing was acceptable.…

Procrastinating is also an obstacle for me because I ALWAYS wait until the last minute. I procrastinate on homework, studying, signing up for classes, and even getting ready to leave for school. If I didn’t procrastinate so much I could be doing so much better in school, and I’d probably be in a university instead of settling for a community college. If I had pushed myself to do better and work harder I’m sure my life would be so much different. I need to work on pushing myself, and doing things right away. I would love to be less stressed out just because I did something early or on time.…

Many countries gained open access to the Internet due to rapid advances in information technology within last twenty years (Ishfag & Tehmina, 2011, p. 5022). In fact, the World Wide Web, originally created in 1990 for US military forces, has become not only an effective instrument for the management of US army, but later a convenient tool that is used by civilians for communication, entertainment, and learning purposes (ibid). One of the most popular and recognized platforms used on the Internet are social networking sites (SNS hereafter) such as MySpace and Facebook. SNS can be defined as…

My experiences in procrastination prove to be not so wise. This year, I was assigned a rather lengthy research project in my AP Language and Composition class. It was a two-month project on the 2012 Election Campaigns and required a 15 page typed research report. As a busy high school junior, I decided not to touch the project until the week before it was due. To my dismay, Hurricane Sandy swept through my region and caused a five day power outage. As a result, my procrastination cost me a large project grade.…

Based on the article, different researchers have varying opinions on the causes of procrastination. Neuroscientist Barry Richmond from the National Institute of Mental Health tested that reward or a due date gets closer, the subject was more likely to stay on task and work hard to reach that goal, but the longer the time between the assign date and the day it is due, the less motivated the subjects were. Another explanation for procrastination from the article is the “arousal procrastinator” who says they work best under pressure and they need that last minute rush to complete the…

Procrastination is the practice of poor time management paired with lack of willpower. There are two different types of procrastination: behavioral and decisional. Behavioral procrastination is when one uses procrastination as an excuse to do poorly; for example, one may put off studying for an exam until last minute and blame a bad exam score on the procrastination. Another instant where one may have behavior tendencies is when one has low self-esteem or self-worth and believes that if he or she never finishes a task, he or she will not be judged. Those with decisional procrastination problems typically put off making a decision or choice; they typically are afraid of errors and are possibly perfectionists. Decisional procrastinators generally seek out other alternatives until they are made to make a decision, if they make a decision at all. 20% of the population is guilty of procrastination and recent studies show that it is on the rise.…

Procrastination is a major issue in our world today especially in colleges. It has cost people their lives and equally given them life time regrets. I have been an inveterate perfectionist-procrastination since birth. Procrastination has been the bane of my existence as a human being. I procrastinate doing the dishes, making lunch, doing laundry and even to eat food. Growing up as a kid was easier to cope this issue – procrastination because my parents literally had to push me to do everything, starting from performing my morning rituals to bed time. But right now this issue has gotten worse because I don’t have my parents in America to push me around to do certain things.…

It was the first semester of my sophomore year and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Everyone was busy working on their midterm designs projects, everyone with the exception of myself and a few other students who also thought they would have more time. We were all given three weeks to prepare for our midterm critiques, where we were all expected to present a comprehensive design for an outdoor shelter. As usual I had begun the assignment with great enthusiasm, which had fizzled out to less than interested in just two days. I began telling myself the presentation was no big deal; I could finish all of the requirements in one week no problem. And so the procrastinating began, all of a sudden my other assignments seemed much more important as I did everything in my power to avoid working on the presentation. Everything would work out fine, I kept telling myself there is still time.…

Procrastination is the needless postponement of completing tasks, especially out of habit. It is a complicated human behavior that everyone has experienced at some point in our lives. For some people it’s a minor irritation, for others it’s a way of life that produces a lot of stress and anxiety. And we usually find excuses for doing nothing or we lack of self-esteem (“I was sick, didn’t have time, etc.”). Procrastination drains our energy, lowers our morale and distracts us from what we really need to do. It makes us feel bad about our lives and ourselves.…
