Steve Jobs: History and Background
Steven Paul, was an orphan adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs of Mountain View, California in February 1955. Soon after the family moved to Los Altos, California where teachers remember Steve Jobs as a "loner" and "always had a different way of looking at things". Jobs attended lectures at the Hewlett-Packard electronics firm in Palo Alto, California, where he was soon hired as a summer employee. While working their as a summer intern, Jobs met Stephen Wozniak. In 1972 Jobs graduated high school and started taking philosophy classes at Reed College in Portland. In 1974 Jobs took a job as a video game designer at
Atari, Inc., where he saved enough money to adventure on a trip to India. He traveled to India in search of spiritual enlightenment. When he returned to California, he began attending meeting of Wozniak's "Homebrew Computer Club". Job's was not interested in creating electronics and was nowhere near as good an engineer as Wozniak, but he had his eye on marketability of electronic products and persuaded Wozniak to work with him toward building a personal computer. Jobs and Wozniak designed the Apple I computer in Job's bedroom and they built the prototype in the Job's garage. Jobs showed their inventions to a local electronics equipment retailer, who ordered twenty-five computers. Jobs and Wozniak envisioned starting a computer company that would produce and sell computers. Together they raised $1,300 to start their company. Jobs came up with the name of their new company Apple in memory of a happy summer he had spent as an orchard worker in Oregon.
Many Colleagues describe Jobs as a brilliant man who can be a great motivator and positively charming. At the same time his drive for perfection is so strong that employees who did not meet his demands are faced with verbal attacks that can eventually burn out even the most motivated of people. Job's drive for perfection often leads people to be very afraid of him and

In 1976, high school friends Steven Jobs and Stephen Wozniak shared a common love and interest in electronics. In their early stages, Apple I & II were designed as a hobby. Apple I was actually created in Steven’s bedroom. “They would showcase the computers at the Homebrew Computer Club (of which they were members) as a demonstration (Apple Museum, 2011)”. The highlights were the video screens, and the fact that it used few chips to operate (during this time keyboards and video screens were not well established). The blue prints/schematics were passed around freely for all to see. Stephen would go to the homes of friends and help them build their own. Thanks to a never-ending campaign by Apple’s powerful public relations machine to protect the myths surrounding the company’s origin, almost everyone believes that Apple was started in a garage by “the two Steves,” Stephen Gary Wozniak, 25, and Steven Paul Jobs, 21. Actually, the operation began in a bedroom at 11161 Crist Drive in Los Altos (the house number changed to 2066 when the land was annexed from the county to the city in late 1983), where Jobs—after having dropped out of Reed College in Portland, Oregon—was living with his adoptive parents, Paul R. (a machinist at Spectra Physics) and Clara (a payroll clerk at Varian). That mere semantic distinction can be forgiven. When the bedroom became too crowded, the operation did indeed move to the garage.…

The first product manufactured by this company was Apple I. “Apple used TV as the display medium, which was revolutionizing in its own self. Before that, no personal computers offered any sort of display. It worked much faster than other machines and provided an easy start up RAM and bootstrap code.” (Apple Inc., 2012) Building these machines was a problem because of the financial status of the company and because the location wasn’t appropriate. They managed to get a loan for US$250,000 through Mike Markkula who co-signed the bank loan. With money and new hope, the Apple II was created and it was specifically directed to households. ”Millions were sold well into the 1980s.
