Mood is the emotional charge in the story, how you feel when reading or how the characters feel. In “A Haunted House” mood is very important since it’s what makes the plot happen. It also makes the story different from other ghost texts.
We can perceive a mood of inquisitiveness when the author writes ““Here we left it," she said. And he added, "Oh, but here too!" "It's upstairs," she murmured. "And in the garden," he whispered. "Quietly," they said, "or we shall wake them." ”. This conversation by the ghost couple makes the reader curious of what they might be looking for. The mood is created by causing an unknowing feeling in the reader.
Another mood in the story is the longing or nostalgia of the ghost couple. They have found themselves again, in another life, and are now looking for their treasure. The ghost couple feels the need to find this treasure again, which is the love and memories they lived and left on the house. They are desperately looking to remember the moments they lived and cherished.
The story also makes us feel the love, kindness and how happy the ghost couple was while they lived. It creates a mood of bliss in the story, since these ghosts are kind and want the other living couple to find the treasure of life too. In the paragraph: “ “Safe, safe, safe,” the heart of the house beats proudly. “Long years —” he sighs. “Again you found me.” “Here,” she murmurs, “sleeping; in the garden reading; laughing, rolling apples in the loft. Here we left our treasure —” Stooping, their light lifts the lids upon my eyes. “Safe! safe! safe!” the pulse of the house beats wildly. Waking, I cry “Oh, is this your buried treasure? The light in the heart.”” We can clearly see how the ghost couple preserve and embrace their love even after death, and how they want the other couple to love and live like they did.
The ghost couple was desperately searching for their treasure in the house they had lived many years ago. The
