9/4/13
NUR 111 Teaching Learning Project
Teaching Topic: Teach a child(ren) to identify major body organs and teach about basic functions of these organs.
This could be used in reference to teaching children about body parts in general; to help prepare a child for a possible surgical procedure; or teach about a new illness or newly diagnosed health condition.
Supplies: I will use a cloth doll that has flaps that open to disclose abdominal body parts that are attached with Velcro as well as ribs. I can bring the doll into class, if requested, but prefer not to leave her. Photos of her are attached.] Also to be used are coloring pages for the child(ren) to color as part of the activity or to take home. For an older child(ren), a coloring page with some blanks to write in the name of the organs could be used.

Goal: The child(ren) will be able to identify each of the major body parts either through working with the doll or coloring/label pages. Or it can be used to teach about a particular procedure or health condition affecting the child(ren).
Audience: Young, school-aged children of both genders. Approximate age: 5 – 10 yrs. Taking into consideration the developmental level and attention span of children in this age range, a simple approach to name and identified the location of major body organs will be used. A few basic facts about what each organ’s function is in relation to the body will suffice for this age group.
Cultural & Language Considerations: When working with a child, you will need to have the parent’s consent and cooperation. Taking into consideration any cultural or language barriers that might impede your ability to effectively use this teaching technique. If necessary, a translator should be used that has knowledge of medical
