The Effects of War and Peace on Foreign Aid
War comes with many costs, and Foreign Aid is one among the many. Infact, in many a cases the biggest that a nation had to pay.
In International relations, overseas aid or foreign aid is provided in the form of a voluntary transfer of resources from a developed country, such as the United States of America to developing nation like Bangladesh or India. A part of the objective behind this act of giving is often humanitarianism and altruisim. Humanitarinism meaning the ethic of kindness, benevolence, and sympathy extended universally and impartially to all human beings in other words, for the welfare of humanity. Similarly altruisim stands for selflessness, a practice of concern for the welfare of others.
These aid have other functions too. it may be given as a signal of diplomatic approval, or to strengthen a military ally, to reward a government for behaviour desired by the donor, to extend the donor's cultural influence, to provide infrastructure needed by the donor for resource extraction from the recipient country, or to gain other kinds of commercial access.
There are all kinds of aid: Emergency aid, development aid, official development assitance or ODA, private giving, cash aid, in kind aid, air priorities, logistics etc etc.
In developing countries like India and Bangladesh, foreign aid have played a very important role in the development process. For instance, 100 percent of Bangladesh’s development budget depends on aid which has made a significant contribution to the reconstruction of its economy. In India, foreign aid has financed over 8 percent of the domestic investments and about 15 percent of imports.
