From city to city, cultures, environments, and beliefs vary immensely. A city means more than simply “a large town.” For example, my own home of Dallastown, Pennsylvania differs drastically from the much larger city of Philadelphia. Where I grew up, the white population is the overwhelming majority; Philadelphia obviously differs in this category. Cities provide a haven of interesting people from conflicting ideologies, color, and financial statuses. My home’s landscape is regularly hilly and forested, whereas Philadelphia is full of skyscrapers, streets, and city-lights. Every town and city is unique in their own sense; landmarks, culture, music, and even transportation define what that place might stand for, or signify. I’ve visited numerous…

Urbanization in China is growing at an unprecedented rate. Specifically, the city of Shanghai was described as a transformation from traditional to modern. Many of the residents were forced out homes that had been in their family for decades and generations. China under Mao was 90% agrarian, but current plans are to make the country 70% urban, the old woman sitting inside the high rise apartment was able to give a sense that the old traditional ways of China is a thing of the past.…
Secondly, there are many kind of public transport such as train, tram, bus, taxi in the city and there are many streets. On the other hands, in the country they do not have many streets so therefore making the city transport system more complex but in a better way. Again the convenience in the city is better than the convenience in the country. It is easy to make more friends because people living in a city are more friendly and happier with their friends. On the other hand, in the country people are less open minded to make friends with someone they have never met. Another factor that has to do with the well being of a person is getting sick, and health in the city is better than in the country, In city there are many hospitals.…

My name is Yifan Shen. I was born in Hangzhou, it is one of the most beautiful cities in China. I love my city very much. It sits at the head of Hangzhou Bay on China’s coast between Shanghai and Ningbo. Hanghzou grew to prominence as the southern terminus of the Grand Canal and has been one of the most renowned and prosperous cities in China for much of the last millennium, due in part to its beautiful natural scenery. The city’s West Lake is its best-know attraction. Hangzhou’s economy has rapidly developed since its opening up in 1992. It is an industrial city with many diverse sectors such as light industry, agriculture, and textiles. It is considered an important manufacturing base logistics hub for coastal China. The city has developed many new industries, including medicine, information technology, heavy equipment, automotive components, household electrical appliances, electronics, telecommunication, fine chemicals, chemical fibre and food processing…

Unlike the country, the city is full of action. The city is full of different colorful lights at night, tall and short buildings all around, vehicles traveling at a steady pace, and people walking towards their destination. In the city, not much of nature or animals are within sight. It is a place that is fast paced compared to the country which is a slow paced environment. If you have two choices: life in the city or in the country, which one will you choose? .Some people think that city life has more benefits than country life; however, some people agree that country life is a real life like a nice dream: hearing nature’s music, seeing sights of the land and its beauty, and planting trees. Even though, city living and country living might be considered similar, as night and day but from a broader perspective, they both have some differences in conveniences, life conditions, and people's characteristics,…
We are in the possession of three documents: the first one is a text about Shanghai’s growth, the second one is a picture of Pudong, which is a state-level new area of Shanghai, China, located along the east side of the Huangpu River, across from the historic city center of Shanghai in Puxi. The third document is a table that represents traffic of the major ports in 2005. All these documents have one common point: they show us that Shanghai is considered a global city in the making. Global cities can be defined by the role they perform in global economic, financial, cultural, transportation and political affairs. So to what extent can we say that Shanghai is becoming a global city? We will answer this question by showing the economic and infrastructural growth, the political growth and the cultural growth of this Chinese city.…
