“First of all,” he said, “if you can learn a simple trick, Scout , you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” (p.39) (p. 30 in old edition)
In this quotation, Scout is chatting with Atticus and Scout tells him that if it was ok with Atticus, she wasn’t going to go to school. She says that Atticus should teach her like his Granddaddy did for him. Scout also mentioned how Atticus didn’t go to school and he turned out to be successful. The quotation means that you can get along better with folks if you understand how a that person lives his life, and to not judge on someones outer appearance, because your outer appearance may not reflect someones inner appearance. I do agree with the quotation for many reasons. For one, I believe in the saying, “ You cant judge a book by its cover.” This saying is similar to the quotation because when Atticus says, “ You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Scout in a way wants to be treated the same as everyone. Since Burris Ewell gets to only has to go to school the first day, Scout feels she should be treated the same way, so she doesn’t have to go to school. And also, since Atticus was home schooled, she thinks she should too. Scout believes that if someone gets the easy route to something, everyone should. During Challenge day, their was an activities where we said, “If you really knew me....” and then we said things that went on in our life. That activity gave the group members a chance to really climb into someones
