The cliché “well back in my day” is something the youth of today hear much too often from their elders. When actually there is not much of a difference from the rebellious kids in the past and the rebellious kids of today. The activities frowned upon by adults that some young adults participate in are the same activities that were taking place almost 40 years ago like excessive drug use.
Starting in the 70’s when were teenagers doing things like leaving home to go on the road and deny the rules of the government is almost the same as teenagers today who do not want to do the “norm” so in end go out and experiment with sex and drugs which is really common now but it was also common in the 70’s. Teenagers today are believed to defy authority and do almost the exact opposite of what they are expected to do. Which in reality isn’t anything new or farfetched as some elders make it seem.
The counterculture of the youth in the 70’s is practically popular culture for today’s youth. With music like rock n roll, which can be compared to music the youth today love but parents despise because rock n roll was frowned upon by adults in the 70’s as well. Fashion is another thing that young people often get criticized for; just like the teens in the 70’s who grew out their hair, wore afros and bellbottoms. All easily comparable to teens dying their hair various colors and girls shaving off different parts of their hair.
Overall it’s fair to say that today’s rebellious youth isn’t much different from rebellious kids in the past. Maybe it is just human nature to think that trends in the newer generations are
