Q7. In the film slumdog millionaire some residents feel the area was portrayed in a positive light, this is because it is said to show reality, and “everyone wants to see reality” this shows that although there are a number of negative points in the film the positive ones are also true such as the sense of community and to some extent the goodness of some of the people of Dharavi. It also shows that the children of the area have the ability to do a lot and shows the work ethic of the people of the area. Although some bad publicity has been gained, the film will increase people’s interest in India and potentially make it a more appealing place to visit. However the film mainly portrays the area in a negative way this is because it depicts the lives and conditions of impoverished Indians, tarnishing the entire countries reputation. It will lead to a prejudiced view of India as a whole although the film only looks at a very small minority.
