What is a myth? From the Greek mythos, myth means story or word. Mythology is the study of myth. As stories (or narratives), myths articulate how characters undergo or performance, an ordered sequence of events. The term myth has come to refer to a certain genre (or category) of stories that share characteristics that make this genre distinctly different from other genres of oral narratives, such as legends and folktales.
One of the “legends” is our main “character” described and told from the ancient greek history and Myths, Poseidon.
Poseidon had many functions and names sucha as Powerful Poseidon, The Olympian god, the god of the horses (Ippios), the Earth-Mover (Gaies-kineter), the Earth-Ruler (Gaieohos), He-who-makes-earth-and-sea-to-heave (Mohleftir), the Earth-Shaker (Seisihthon), the Earth-Subduer (Damasihthon), the Earth-Striking-One (Elasihthon) the Lord-of-the-sea (Alimedon) which were given by the locals and used by many ancient historical writers. Ex, he could cause the sky to be so hot that it starts to dry out the land.
Poseidon have been stretched too thin in his job responsibilities after being overlook by his father but being the heads of gods, he was charged with rule over law and destinies as the lord of Justice and Law.
Poseidon was the god of the seas in charge of the seas and is often the one who makes earthquakes. He is also the god of Horses.
It was said that Poseidon lived on the ocean floor in a palace made of coral and gems, and drive a chariot pulled by horses. Even though Poseidon was the god of horses, Athena built the first chariot.
Athena, (Minerva, the goddess of Wisdom and Skill) like Poseidon was also an Olympian god/ess, also built the first ship to sail on the sea over which Poseidon ruled.
