White privilege
The definition of White privilege in my eyes would be that privilege exists when one group has something of value that is denied to others simply because of the groups they belong to, rather than because of anything they’ve done or failed to do. Below I selected a few privileges that I found I could relate to and one of them that I could not connect to. For starters, I believe to some degree, most American's have a lot of these privileges in their everyday lives. With that being said for me personally there were a couple of the privileges she mentioned that caught my eye.

I can if I wish arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time.
I picked this privilege because I see it as something I basically do every day, for the simple fact that I spend most of my time at home with my family who in fact is my same "race".
I can be pretty sure that my neighbors in such a location will be neutral or pleasant to me.
I chose this one because I have moved twice in the past two years and thankfully I have had wonderful friendly neighbors but after all even if they were not pleasant to me, I could always choose to either move or ignore them but either way it's my choice.
I can be pretty sure of finding people who would be willing to talk with me and advise me about my next steps, professionally.
I highly agree with this one because we live in a world where if one really wants something, most likely than not, we could reach it (reach our goals with a little push).
I can easily find academic courses and institutions which give attention only to people of my race.
Definitely true, I come from a Hispanic background and now-in-days there are a few scholarships for Hispanic/Latino people.
I can be pretty sure that if I ask to talk to the "person in charge", I will be facing a person of my race.
I didn't so much agree with this privilege at least to my experience because even today most of the higher level of authority is still from some sort of

White Privilege: The Invisible Knapsack, by Peggy Mcintosh illustrates an image of white superiority over other colored people. Peggy knapsack is lecturer and associate director at the Wellesley College Center where she does her research. Specifically focusing on women, gender equality and multi culture. Her legitimacy derives out of being some of the firsts scholars to examine whites to be measured in racial categories. Beginning with one of her first arguments, the author states that much like men having hierarchy over women, white colored people have immunities that people of colored skin do not. Just as she said “Describing white privilege makes one newly accountable. As we in women’s studies work to reveal male privilege and ask men…

I do not think that I am one to be bias or racist in any way. However, I do think that in the society we live in today, growing up, you know who stands out in your community. I grew up in a white community. There is very little diversity where I come from. Once I got to Jr. High though, there was one student out of the whole class that was of a different color. I do not know what it was life for her growing up where she did, but when she was little I cannot imagine that it was easy. I would not say out loud that I had more privilege than another person, but when I was younger, I feel like I may have thought that I…

Fortgang’s definition of privilege has similar feeling to mine. Privilege feels like someone is upset with the way things are going for them and need something to quickly bring down the others around them because of differences in race, gender, and religion. Which is unfair to everyone. Just because someone is a certain color, age, gender, height, hair color, or lives somewhere; you can't go with the basic stereotypes that exist. Even if you think they are positive traits you can't use them because they single people out from the group and makes them feel lonely or…

In America, privileged is something we see every day whether it is gender, sexuality, age, socioeconomics, or religion. Tim Wise documentary on White Privilege discuss inequality of race between blacks and whites. In this paper I will discuss other privilege beside raced that are enjoyed by a preferred category. People of a particular category are in denial of privilege, such as rich people feel people of poverty put themselves in that predicament. Rich people feel there should be no government assistance that includes: public housing, food stamps, federal grants, and Medicare. In America women are paid 79 percent of what men make. I notice that women are chosen more for teaching and secretarial jobs while men get chosen for manual labor jobs.…

These White Privilege readings engage popular culture by defining white privilege through concrete evidence. Texts such as “White Privilege: Unpacking the Knapsack” ask the reader is to view a list of items that define white privilege. The reader is then asked to confirm whether or not the privileges are applicable to how he or she lives. As most white people realize just how applicable white privileges are to them, they can see that the problem is not just skin deep. The privileges white people have today are because of the white privileges available throughout history. In “The History of White People” the author unveils that most of what we study is a white man’s version of history, and therefore discredits other race’s contribution to history.…

In White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack, Peggy McIntosh provides vivid examples on how "white privilege" is considered to be unapparent for many white individuals and negatively affects people of color. White privilege is an “unearned advantage” given to Caucasian individuals, as it “confers dominance” by establishing that the is white race is superior (McIntosh, 1990). With white privilege, white individuals are protected from the “hostility, distress, and violence,” which is often associated with individuals of color (McIntosh, p. 332). White privilege gives these individuals the opportunity to receive vital educational, political, and social resources that may possibly be inaccessible for people of color. By providing awareness on how white privilege works and how it can be detrimental in the attempt to gain racial equity for individuals of color, this concept can work to improve racial equity by establishing educational programs that inform individuals on white privilege and ending political policies that serve as a measure to oppress individuals of color.…

The article “Understanding Whiteness,” conveys the understanding of white privilege and advantages that are commonly experienced. American culture allows those who are white the privilege of not thinking about race in most situations or gatherings they encounter, as they are the majority. It is much easier to see the advantages of being White, when you are the minority or a person of color consistently regulated by white middle class…

“Prison sentences for black men are nearly 20% longer than those of white men conducted for similar crimes”(Blake 1). Privilege is something that people can have and get taken away, like a rule. Since it is a choice to have, it is not a mandatory use. The issue with cross cultures in the word is that Europeans do not realize they are more privileged than they think they are. While European men and women argue that racial privilege does not concern them, African American men and women may implore that racial privilege has everything to do with them, and its negative impact.…

Now we need a more finely differentiated taxonomy of privilege, for some of these varieties are only what one would want for everyone in a society, and others give license to be ignorant, oblivious, arrogant, and destructive. Privilege was a word known as somewhat of a reward, whether received by working for it, birth, or luck. Now it is more of a scientifically overpower certain groups (Rothenberg, 2012, p. 124).…

White privilege is when individuals who are born with White skin are awarded unearned social benefits, assets, protections, and advantages over people of color strictly because of their skin color (McIntosh 1998; Crosley-Corcoran 2014). For instance, White people do not have to warn their children about systematic racism that still exists in today’s society and how to manage their lives in order to protect themselves from it (McIntosh 1998). While some White people may be disadvantaged due to other social statuses they hold, they still profit from having White skin whether or not they recognize it (Crosley-Corcoran 2014). As an example, poor White people still tend to have better access to social institutions than people of color (Guillén…

Imagine two job applications came across your desk; one belongs to a Caucasian female and the other belongs to an African-American female. Which one would you choose? The African-American female who has experience in your specific work field or the Caucasian female who graduated from a good school and received a Merit scholarship for college? Would you look at their individual background or their individual skin color? A lot of businesses tend to choose the Caucasian woman. In today’s society, no matter where you go, there will be white privilege. White privilege is an advantage that white people have over non-whites and it is manifested by preferential treatment. By analyzing Difference Matters by Brenda Allen, White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack by Peggy McIntosh and Jennifer Pozner’s article in Barclay Barrios’ Emerging, we can understand white privilege as an rarely talked about concept but certainly can be recognized when people of other races are treated less fairly as if they are below white people.…
