The complexity of William Carlos Williams’, The Red Wheel Barrow, can be disregarded as simple at first if read as a sentence but once it is broken down into stanzas a few words make it stand out. The specifics of color brings the reader closer to what is going on in the picture Mr. Williams is attempting to paint. It broadens the reader’s ability to relate to the scene. It leaves you wondering what depends so much upon the red wheel barrow.…
Reflections Within is a non-traditional stanzaic poem made up of five stanzas containing thirty-four lines that do not form a specific metrical pattern. Rather it is supported by its thematic structure. Each of the five stanzas vary in the amount of lines that each contain. The first stanza is a sestet containing six lines. The same can be observed of the second stanza. The third stanza contains eight lines or an octave. Stanzas four and five are oddly in that their number of lines which are five and nine.…

Discuss 2 of Dawe's poems which illustrates his belief that ordinary things in life are a good subject for poetry.

Bruce Dawe poems illustrate his version of "ordinary". The poems I have studied of his work have been about life and how people deal with everyday living. Such poems as Drifters and Homosuburbiensis are good examples of how Dawe captures the meaning of "ordinary". Drifters is about a family who move from place to place, as the father needs to move by the demand of his job. The young children are growing up to learn no other way of life, as they are all waiting for the day they shall move again. The children get very excited about this, as it is something different and is of course an adventurous, in ordinary life.

The eldest, she is seeing what she is missing out on and is becoming aware that there nomadic lives may never change. She who once was one of those excited children, realises she can not lead a normal teenage life as she is not stationed long enough, to become friends with people her own age. She is becoming frustrated with her life. She becomes upset but knows she has to accept the inevitable. From the above Dawe shows compassion for the eldest as she has to go through this more than once. Also the young children are going to grow up to realise they will too go through the same thing. Dawe also shows a serious side in the poem, as the mother just wants to settle down and have the bright future she has always dreamed of. Dawe has a sympathetic outlook towards the mother, by outlining her hopes and dreams, also asking her husband Tom to make a wish in the last line of the poem. Thus hoping he will choose the same path in life that would be concrete and will bring them closer together. Because this is a continuous event the mother is getting frustrated as at the time of packing once again she finds that she has not unpacked from there last move.

This poem is not everyone's ordinary life but a life the…
How does one view the thought of childhood? Does one see it as a time of innocence or a time of terror? Throughout genereations novels have been based off of these ideas in which the author would use childhood as innocence or as terror. These beliefs have been around since the beginning of time and are still quarreled about to this very day. Childood can be regarded both ways it all depends on the authors perspective and what he or she believes.…

It has been brought to my attention; that the past motion pictures you have acted in have not been as successful as we both thought. This in no way shape or form has any thing to do with your comic routines, as we both know they are a huge success and growing ever more popular day by day. The American public loves who you are, and what you stand for although my sources tell me that your acting needs some polishing up. This is what the people want and being on top as an actor and a comedian the sky is the limit for Katt Williams. This is not as big of a deal as it sounds. I have pulled some strings and have landed you an audition on Broadway. I know Katt Williams on Broadway? Yes this lead role is perfect for you it allows you to use your natural funny and mix it with some real acting. Soap Opera, David Ives doesn’t sound like the funniest play ever. You state in stand up you can’t judge a book by its cover the same goes for plays. This is exactly what your career is in dire need of.…
This poem uses multiple literary devices such as metaphors and similes to explain how the family tries to overcome the loss of their pet. The simile, “Like primitives we bury the cat with its bowl.” Their cat is buried with its bowl without being put in any sort of box or coffin. Kenyon compares this action to that of the primitives. Another example of a simile is exhibited in these lines, “And a robin burbles from a dripping bush like the neighbor that means well but always says the wrong thing.” The sound of the birds chirp is felt as more of an annoyance than a welcoming sound. This is because the memory of their loss is still fresh in their mind. In addition to the similes, the poet also makes use of metaphors makes the reader even more aware of the family’s state of mind. In the line “It stormed all night; now it clears, and a robin burbles from a dripping bush.” Even though the storm has passed, the effects of the storm can still be seen in the…

William Carlos Williams (1883- 1963) is one of the prominent personas of American Poetry. He received his Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and the American Academy of Arts and Letters gold medal for poetry from the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1963. Despite Williams’ recognition as one of the elite poets of the twentieth century, he was also known for his writings in many other genres. Williams’ life story was a result of all his plans that didn’t fall into place. He wanted to be an athlete, a forester, something that was totally opposite from the career that he had as a pediatrician.…
Using this standard, the focus is the essential literacy strategy of demonstrating and explaining the vocabulary (components) pertaining to and the creation of poetry. The objectives are scaffolded beginning with the first lesson’s literacy objective requiring students to comprehend and explain stanzas and verses in poetry. The expectation of students is that they will be able to identify and explain how verses, or lines, are used to create stanzas in poetry. The students will need to identify and explain their reasoning when encountering a poem that has had its verses changed into a sentence, and the students will have to demonstrate where they believe the verses begin and end by drawing lines and explaining why they felt that the line placement is justified. This in turn, allows related skills for the next objective, identifying and explain rhythm, the patterns they create, in poetry. By using a close reading strategy of creating vertical lines for each singular or multisyllabic word in each verse in a given stanza or whole poem. Knowing my students prior knowledge of creating syllables, students will use additional reading strategies of identifying syllables by clapping or placing a hand under the chin and counting how many times their hand descends when speaking a word. This allows students to visually and physically identify the syllables that create the rhythm in poetry. Students will read several different types of poetry to themselves and will first identify the syllables in a given poem and will then explain how they arrived at their opinion in a teacher lead discussion within their group. Students will be given an assessment which will allow the teacher to assess their comprehension of the second lesson which will allow the students to better understand the third lesson pertaining to the standard. The third lesson addresses the standard’s objective by introducing and focusing on modeling…
Edgar Allen Poe is regarded as one of the most influential writers of short stories known to man. Particularly known for his horror stories, Poe kept the reader guessing until the last word on the page. I would like to compare and contrast two of his well-known stories, “The Black Cat” and “The Cask of Amontillado”. First,I would like to state that both of these stories are riddled with irony. The narrator in each is played to be a very untrustworthy, sneaky person who we are not intended to totally trust. In “The Black Cat”, the narrator starts out telling the reader some background information about his life and leads into stating that he himself is not crazy. In the introductionto “The Cask” the narrator starts off plainly saying that this person, Fortunato, has wronged him and he vows to get revenge. Both of these stories have a lot of meaning in the introductory paragraphs. Poe’s intention is to intrigue the reader so that he continues reading with suspense. Both stories had the same type of unreliable narrator. Another thing both stories have in common is the irony used by Poe. In “The Black Cat” there is the irony of the narrator’s self proclamation. He also goes on to say that he has always been fond of animals, which turns out to be veryironic when he kills the cat. “The Cask” also has irony in it when referring to both main characters’ names. “Fortunato” turns out to be the not-so-fortunate one, while “Montressor” is the monster. There is also some irony in the fact that Fortunato is the one dressed up like a joker for the carnival. There are, of course, some differences in both of these stories. In “The Black Cat”, the narrator shows that he has some mental instability through the dialogue and action. He also goes on to say that he is on the vergeon alcoholism. Some thought this could be a self medication for some other mental issue he was having. The narrator continues to illustrate his mental downfall as the story goes forward until the very end when…
