Australia joined the World War 1 because Australian wanted to help the motherland (Britain) out. Over 416,809 men enlisted and 60,000 were killed and 156,000 were wounded, gassed or taken help prisoner. Australians also enlisted because they want to show pride and show to the females that they are brave. In the newspapers, political parties and sometimes churches advertise the males to join the war. Woman also rejected and abused men that did not get it to the AIF (Australian Imperial Force.) All the women’s wanted men that joined the AIF, not the ones who didn’t make it in.
During the enlisting stages of the war men in Australia gets a lot of reasons for joining the war. Enlisting for the AIF has quite a lot of benefits for the men and their family. One good reason is getting paid more than the ‘Mother Land.’ Australians gets paid 6 shillings a day but the British soldiers get 1 a day. The young men don’t was to miss out on the only opportunity for going somewhere else. It’s like an opportunity for ‘Adventure’, and the men felt like it was their ‘duty’ to enlist and help the ‘mother land’ out. Another reason to enlist is so they can get all the attention from the Females.
During the enlisting stages Australian men enlisted because of peer pressure like in Source 1. This poster made the men to feel that they can have an adventure with their friends. Also it gains opportunity to meet and find new friends from all across Australia. In the poster it say “Follow your mates” this made the young men’s feel like that their friends are going to join and have fun together. If that was me and I saw this poster I would of joined strait away and probable see my friends there too. Back then the young men like to support each other and they have mateship. No one wants to be left out and see all your mates laughing at you. In this poster it demonstrated by Source 1, a World War one enlistment poster, which asks for young Australian men to join or you
