Essay 1: Argumentative Essay
‘Some businesses now say that no one can smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Some governments have banned smoking in all public places. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons.’
You're always better off if you quit smoking; it's never too late. A well said thought by Loni Anderson. Smoking is never good for your health, it acts as a slow poison which kills you daily after every puff. It is considered as a bad habit but still a large proportion of people are indulged into smoking nowadays those even includes children and teenagers. Yes, it’s not very easy to quit smoking but still a try is never too late.
Recently, many business organizations and even public places have banned smoking in the respective area in order to provide healthy environment. This turned out to be in a great argument because smokers don’t accept these sort of laws while non-smokers are more satisfied with this act. On a certain extent, it’s convincible as we think about it in respect of human rights that every human have right to enjoy their freedom no matter if they are smokers even, because it’s not easy to quit smoking and when people will be working they had to fulfill their addiction, but according to these laws they have to control their need. Smoking is not a criminality this is what they argue, so for resolving this, organizations and government should assign an area where smokers can go for smoking. This will keep environment healthy as well as smokers will get their rights.
But on another hand, while going for smoking, there is a loss in work productivity. As employees will be off their desk and will enjoying smoking outside will lead to long breaks and a decrease in work productivity. So it’s more recommendable if employees try controlling their addiction for certain period of time and focus on work within their office hours.
Furthermore, smoking is highly injurious to health. Over 5 million die in a year just

Smoking cigarettes can cause lung problems. Both first-hand and second-hand smokers are affected by cigarette smoke. Scientific findings and researches show that the chemicals in cigarettes, apart from the smoke, can lead to health problems such as lung cancer. Smoking cigarettes should be banned in public places. In public places, more people, both young and old, can be exposed to the smoke from cigarettes. My position differs from those who might say that smoking altogether should not be banned. My position is that smoking in public places should be banned. It does not include smoking in private places like homes. Smoking in public places should be banned because it poses health risks to individuals who are non-smokers and who do not want to inhale the fumes from cigarettes. The risks are double to those who already have lung ailments.…

In “I’d Rather Smoke Than Kiss,” Florence King states that no matter what American society thinks, says or does, it will not convince her to quit smoking. King 's choice of words suggests that the government purposely tries to segregate all smokers from non-smokers, by making signs or segregating areas for smokers to go. She implies that all non-smokers are against smokers and will do anything in their power to stop them by passing laws. A lot of cigarette companies tell people that if they stop smoking, it will put a strain on the economy, “Strategies”. King 's article is important because her arguments exemplify different observational situations, which society imposes on smokers in the United States and offers knowledge about some of the issues of discrimination towards smokers by combining personal experience and actual situations that smokers encounter everyday in life.…

For several decades, smoking remains one of the most common and most unhealthy of human habits. Smoking, specifically in public, had generally been regarded as a personal choice that bystanders had little control over. Now for the first time, the act of public smoking is becoming regulated, even restricted in many cities worldwide. The city of Columbia has recently implemented a ban on smoking in efforts to reduce the negative effects of smoking on employees and customers of restaurants and bars. The issue is that smoke directly affects everyone in the vicinity of a public place, restaurant or bar. Based on the evidence that a ban on smoking prevents secondhand smoke, deters the unhealthy habit of smoking, does not affect business in similar cities, the city of Columbia should retain its ban on smoking in restaurants and bars.…
