Simon has a sixth sense about everything around him. “‘Maybe,’ he said hesitantly, ‘maybe there is a beast,’… ‘what I mean is … maybe it’s only us’ ” (89). Here Simon talks about the beast that everyone is afraid of, and comments that “It’s just them”. Later in the story you find out that this is true. “ ‘All the same. You’ll get back all right. I think so, anyway’ ” (111). Ralph didn’t think much of it at the time, but at the end of the book, Simon once again proves to be right in his judgment. “ ‘-Or else,’ said the Lord of the Flies, ‘we shall do you? See? Jack and Roger and Maurice and Robert and Bill and Piggy and Ralph. Do you. See?’ ” (144). When Simon looses consciousness, he imagines that the sow’s head, the Lord of the Flies, is speaking to him and telling him that he’s going to be killed by everyone. In the next chapter, Simon is killed and is swept away into the dark, blue ocean. Simon not only has a sixth perception about things, but is caring and thoughtful as well.
