Lab Report Iodination of Acetone Temperature as a Variable Objective The objective of this lab is to determine the energy of activation of the iodination of acetone. This will be done by performing the reaction at differing temperatures. The same reaction orders we obtained for the previous lab will be incorporated into this experiment. The equation Ea = -8.31 x slope of ln k vs. 1/T(K) will be used to determine the energy of activation required for this this reaction. Hypothesis

Experiment A1: Kinetics of the Reaction between Acetone and Iodine The key aim of this experiment was to determine the rate equation for the acid-catalysed iodination of acetone and to hence consider the insinuations of the mechanism of the rate equation obtained. The stoichiometric equation for the reaction between iodine and acetone is below‚ followed by the rate equation (where x‚y‚z and k are the values to be obtained): I2 + CH3COCH3 CH3COCH2I + HI -d[I2]/dt = k [I2]x [CH3COCH3]y [H+]z

signals the breakdown of fats to provide energy in a process called gluconeogenesis. This breakdown of fats produces ketones such as acetone‚ these molecules are acidic. A build-up of acetone and acetoacetate in Roberta’s blood lowers the pH of her blood. This is known as ketoacidosis. She will begin to rapidly breathe in order to compensate for the high levels of acetone and low pH of her blood. 2. She feels very thirsty despite drinking lots of water. This is a common symptom of diabetes‚ another

A Study of Azeotrope and Acetone/Chloroform Liquid-Vapor Phase Diagram Abstract: Liquid-vapor phase of acetone/chloroform was studied through distilling a series of mixtures with different mole fraction. When the mixtures were boiling‚ their vapor was condensed through a water column and collected in a receiving container. Refractive index was collected for starting mixture‚ distillate and residue for each sample. A boiling temperature versus acetone’s mole fraction was constructed to show the

Water Soluble and Acetone Soluble Inks through Chromatography Abstract: Chromatography is a term used to define a set of laboratory techniques for the separation of mixtures. Through Chromatography we analyzed complex mixtures. In our recent lab we analyzed complex mixtures. The purpose of this lab was to find whether the water soluble or acetone soluble liquid traveled farther. In our recent lab we measured the distance traveled by the different colored water and acetone soluble inks. W put

ABSTRACT A molecular diffusion experiment was conducted with the goal of determining the diffusion coefficient of acetone into air. For this experiment‚ acetone was placed in a capillary tube and was allowed to diffuse into non-diffusing air that was passed over the test tube at the temperature of 50oC.Thetemperature is kept constant and air stream is passed over the top of the tube to ensure that the partial pressure of the vapor is transferred from the surface of the liquid to be air stream bymolecular

larger molecule. In an aldol condensation‚ β-hydroxyaldehyde or a β-hydroxyketone is produced in but upon heating the α‚β-unsaturated aldehyde or ketone with water is produced. In double mixed aldo condensation of acetone and benzaldehyde‚ the α-hydrogen’s on both sides of the acetone deprotonates and a nucleophilic enolate anion arises as a result. In an aldol condensation many products are formed there reactant are more than one thus the aldehyde reacts with itself to yield a product. The product

Makati Date Performed: December 5‚ 2012 Date Submitted: December 17‚ 2012 Abstract The distillation process was successfully done because of the separation of water from the acetone. When the distillate was lighted with the matchstick it produced flame which indicates that there was more presence of acetone than water. When the sodium nitroprusside‚ sodium hydroxide and glacial acetic acid was added to the distillate‚ it turned to violet. This means that there is the presence of ketone.

lab is to identify the physical and chemical properties of four liquids: acetone‚ vinegar‚ hydrogen peroxide‚ and oil. By using our knowledge about the four liquids we needed to identify the components of an unknown mixture. Theoretical Background The liquids commonly found around the house such as acetone‚ vinegar‚ hydrogen peroxide‚ and oil was tested to identify the physical and chemical properties of these liquids. Acetone usually used as nail polish remover dissolves plastic. Vinegar used in
