Synthesis of Methyl Stearate The purpose of this lab was the convert liquid methyl oleate to solid methyl stearate by catalytic hydrogenation. Firstly‚ we produced hydrogen gas using solid mossy zinc and sulfuric acid. Using the hydrogen produced in the previous reaction‚ we were able to convert the liquid methyl oleate to solid crystals of methyl stearate. A mineral oil was also used to bubbler was used to maintain the hydrogen pressure slightly above the atmospheric pressure and to prevent back-diffusion

Sarah Muhs ID: 11325862 Nitration of Methyl Benzoate Post Lab: 1. Is the ester group of your starting material electron donating or withdrawing? Support your conclusion with resonance drawings. The ester group‚ CO2CH3‚ of the starting material was electron withdrawing. 2. Draw the mechanism of the nitronium ion reaction with the methylbenzoate. 3. Why does water stop the reaction? Water stops the reaction because of Le Châtlier’s principle. Since water is a product‚ when more is added it drives

began by weighing 4.0ml of methyl salicylate into a flask—a stir bar was added. While stirring‚ 40ml of 6M sodium hydroxide was added and the solution was heated and boiled for about 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes‚ a bit of water was used to wash down the sides of the flask and the solution was cooled. It was boiled for another 15 minutes‚ after this the solution was cooled for 5 minutes in an ice water bath. While the flaks was in the ice bath‚ 50ml of 6M hydrochloric acid was added in 5ml increments

BRONSTED-LOWRY ACIDS AND BASES 1. The Bronsted-Lowry definition There are many definitions of acids and bases in existence‚ but the most useful one is the Bronsted-Lowry definition: An acid is a substance which can behave as a proton (re presented as a hydrogen ion‚ H+) donor. Any substance which contains hydrogen bonded to a more electronegative element can thus behave as an acid: HCl == H+ + Cl- H2SO4 == H+ + HSO4- A base is a substance which can behave as a proton acceptor. Any

Dissociation Model of Prejudice suggests that processing information about others occurs in two-step: the first step triggers the stereotypes automatically‚ and the second step is that people have the control whether to accept the stereotype or not. By this theory‚ people cannot control the acceptances of the stereotype if they are distracted or not paying attention. Dissociation Model gives a cognitive explanation of the source of being

The Equilibrium Constant of an Ester Hydrolysis Reaction CHM 152LL Section 33263 March 28‚ 2014 John Weide Abstract: The purpose if this experiment is to determine the equilibrium constant of an unknown alcohol. In this experiment unknown alcohol number three and unknown ester number three were used. The equilibrium constant was found by titrating a series of reactions containing H2O‚ HCl‚ and the unknown ester with only the last solution containing the unknown alcohol

health field there are many types of mental disorders. One that people are not aware: is called dissociation disorder. It is easy to be confused by the multiple definitions of dissociation disorder. It is important to explain the branches‚ types‚ diagnosis‚ and treatment of a dissociation disorder to understand what it is to suffer with a disorder of this severity. The three main branches of dissociation are Dissociative Amnesia‚ Depersonalization/Derealization‚ and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)

ABSTRACT This experiment was conducted to synthesize methyl benzoate form benzoic acid and methanol by using the Fischer esterification method. The Fischer exterification technique is utilized in the academic and industrial settings due to the simplified synthesis and safety parameters of the overall reaction. Both benzoic acid and methanol are relatively cheap to obtain from a commercial source as well as being easy to store with a relatively long shelf life. The Fischer esterification method is
