Theories of Aging related to Nursing From the reading this week I learned that even though some cognitive functions in old age decline people regardless of age can continue to learn. The cognitive skills that remain stable are attention span‚ language skills‚ communication skills‚ comprehension and discourse and visual perception. Some of the skills that decline with age are verbal fluency logical analysis‚ selective attention object naming and complex vision spatial skills.( Toughy and Jett 2010)

There are many situations in nursing care where a nurse would apply a nursing theory. As Hood mentioned‚ a particular nursing theory may fit a clinical situation better than others (Hood‚ 2014‚ p.149). This allows the nurse to use the wide array of models to give care that is patient centered. The theory that appealed to me most is Orem’s theory. Orem’s theory states that “the purpose of nursing is to help people meet their self-care needs” (Hood‚ 2014‚ p.136). This I feel plays an important part

Select two grand nursing theories and discuss how each theorist addresses the metaparadigm for nursing. Discuss briefly the similarities and differences of the two. The nursing metaparadigm consists of the concepts person‚ heath‚ nursing‚ and environment. The purpose of a metaparadigm is to “summarize the intellectual and social missions of the discipline and place boundaries on the subject matter of that discipline” (McEwen & Wills‚ 2014‚ p.41). It is essentially a domain that explains the

Chaos Theory: Key Concepts and Ideas In Chaos Theory‚ there is a dynamic system that changes with time (Haigh‚ 2008‚ p.298). The system changing is one of its defining characteristics (Haigh‚ 2008‚ p. 299). Using mathematical equations‚ the system and its changes can be graphed and from that data outcomes may possibly be predicted (Haigh‚ 2008‚ p.299). One slight change in the systems starting point can change its whole path and ultimately its destination point/outcomes. Change Theory: Key Concepts

Nursing theories are an important way to gain knowledge in the nursing field by exploring the unknown‚ generating assumptions‚ and developing relationships. Theories offer a way of looking at nursing in clear terms that can be passed on to others. They guide nurses to the structure of the professional practice by helping to describe‚ explain‚ and predict everyday experiences and enhance the independence of nursing. When nurses use theory and theory-based evidence to structure their practice

HOW MY CREATIVE THINKING IN NURSING CARE HELP ME SOLVING PROBLEMS WITH PATIENTS IN LONG TERM CARE When we have made a commitment to work with and develop nursing theory‚ it is important to keep in mind that this activity is crucial to establish scientific foundations in nursing. The first line of teaching and learning in nursing is based on linear thinking‚ arguing to promote the student’s vision of cause / effect when‚ for example‚ this is in the process of providing the patient with an anticoagulant
