    My initial thoughts about this painting is that it seems to be a posed portraite done around the year 1500 judging by the subject’s clothing. It appears that the two men were positioned so that they could lean on the table‚ so I assume the artist painted them while they stood in front of him instead of relying on memory. The two men are dressed very well and give the impression of being explorers or possibly sailors. The detail is amazing so I think the original must be very large for the artist
