In this lab we tested the effect of temperature has on the rate of enzyme activity. The way we figured this out was by taking four different temperatures and testing the difference absorbance levels they produced every 20 seconds for about 2 minutes straight using a spectrophotometer. The important part of this experiment was the temperature the enzyme concentration was made at. What we got from the experiment was at lower temperature we got very low numbers for the absorbance‚ which gave us a lower

Activity of the Enzyme Catalase in breaking down Hydrogen Peroxide and the effect of various factors on Enzyme Activity Introduction The enzyme catalase is present in cells in order to speed the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)‚ which is a toxic chemical to the human body. When hydrogen peroxide is broken down‚ the end products are Water (H2O) and Oxygen (O2). In this report‚ the reaction of catalase to hydrogen peroxide is being tested. Furthermore‚ the effects of temperature‚ concentration

and the rate of reaction. This means when catalase concentration increases‚ the rate of reaction also increases. In other words‚ at 20% catalase concentration‚ the rate of reaction was only 4.220 mm/s while at 100% catalase concentration‚ the rate of reaction was 7.704 mm/s. This proves the positive correlation between catalase concentration and the rate of reaction. This occurs because as the enzyme concentration increases‚ there are more enzymes available to catalyze substrates. More enzymes means

The objectives of this experiment were to investigate the activity of enzymes‚ components that influence the enzyme’s activity‚ identify an unknown phosphatase‚ influence of inhibitors‚ and determine if inhibition is competitive or noncompetitive. A spectrophotometer evaluated the measurement of color change over a period time due to product being formed. Determining unknown phosphatase and effects from different inhibitors were determined by varying the pH and substrate concentrations. The unknown

Lab Ex#8: "Enzymes: Catalysts of Life" INTRODUCTION Enzymes are protein organelles where chemical reactions take place to generate energy within our cells. Without the energy produced from the cell enzyme activity‚ we would not possess the catalyst activity necessary for energy to produce movement. Each enzyme performs a specific function within our bodies. Those functions performed can be significantly altered with the introduction of variables outside their environment. Variables‚ such as temperature

Sample Lab Report: Factors which Affect the Activity of the Enzyme Catalase Purpose: Must include:  background information about concepts involved in the lab‚  statement of purpose of the lab  identification of independent and dependent variables. A hypothesis is often not necessary or appropriate. Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions in cells. They break down molecules called substrates. Each enzyme has only one substrate that it breaks down. Enzymes are produced in

Title: Enzyme Activity Lab Purpose: To measure the rate of enzyme activity from a tissue abstract and experiment with different factors‚ such as the enzyme solution and the substrate with different hydrogen peroxide percentages and temperature‚ that affect enzyme activity. Hypothesis: 1) If the disk is placed into each beaker with 100 units/ml of enzyme solution‚ then the time for the disk to float will be 30 seconds. 2) If the temperature of the solution is at 5 degrees Celsius‚

for the effects of temperature on the enzyme activity was that the reaction’s rate would increase as the temperature increased‚ until they go over the optimum temperature where the enzymes denature and the reaction’s rate quickly drops to zero. At 5 degree C the rate is 0.00059mole PNP/min. This then increases to 0.01031mmoles PNP/min at a temperature of 50 degree C. The rate then drops drastically to -0.00215moles PNP/min. This point is where the enzymes have been denatured and have no activity

Chemestry Lab Rates of Reaction (Picture from: http://sciencespot.net/Pages/kdzchem.html) The rate of reaction is how fast or slow a reaction is completed. This is important for factories and chemists all over the world. What happenes during a reaction is atoms or molecules that collide and form new molecules. You can affect this rate of reaction with: temperature of reactants or suroundings‚ surface area of reactants‚ if there is a catalyst present‚ but in theis lab the concentration was changed
