theories put forth by Richter. Which do you think is the best interpretation of Genesis 1-3? Why? The first theory is the gap theory (p 95-96). This theory states that between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2‚ Satan and a third of the angels have fallen. In Genesis 1:1‚ God has already created something and then right after it there is the gap where Satan destroys it after falling‚ and God is forced to recreate it which we see in Genesis 1:2. Carol Meyer’s translation of Genesis reads similar to the NRSV version translation. The main difference I see comes from the neutral phrasings used for the first human prior to the “cosmic surgery‚” where the first human would become a man and a woman‚ Adam and Eve. One issue with the Meyer translation that I found unsatisfactory is the use of neutral pronouns. This is a nit-picky issue for me because the neutral phrasing might translate better‚ tone wise‚ in the original tongue of the writing. However
