Abstract: The accident that happened aboard the offshore platform Piper Alpha in This summer 1988 wiped out 167 people and price vast amounts of dollars in damage to property. It had been triggered with a massive fire that was not caused by an unpredictable “act of God” but of an amount of errors and questionable choices. Many of them were rooted within the organization‚ its structure‚ methods‚ and culture. These business factors are generalizable with other industries and engineering systems.

I have recently watched a movie called High Noon and just read a short story called "The Most Dangerous Game." High Noon came out in theaters in 1952 and is about a Marshall who has four criminals who want revenge on him for putting one of them in jail. It has cowboys and gun fights in the Old West. "The Most Dangerous Game" came out in 1924 and is about hunting and the main character surviving all by himself. Both of these stories are very well told and partly have suspense. They might have a lot

HIGH NOON FALLACIES High Noon‚ a western film mostly respected by conservative viewers‚ and endlessly ranked over by critics. This was an exciting movie considering it was a black and white film. The whole movie was about the loyalty of a town marshal named Kane and the betrayal of the town. After watching High Noon‚ there were a lot of fallacies that were depicted through out the movie such as begging the question‚ ad hominem‚ slippery slope‚ and Inconsistency. The characters in the movie do

GOOD AND EVIL The movie "High Noon" has interesting comparisons to the philosophies and views of Immanuel Kant and John Stuart Mill. It would be easy to analyze the lead character Kane as mirroring the philosophical views of Kant. This paper will analyze the somewhat contradictory actions of other characters which‚ to me‚ represent a quintessential truth about personal beliefs – that they are changed according to situation. I will be commenting on two characters in the movie which show a change

In ‘High Noon’ Will Kane justifies the use of pre-emptive violence to stop a potential threat to society. In his article James Woolsey uses the same reasoning to defend US foreign policy and criticize Europe. Comment on this analogy. To what extent do you think American foreign policy has been influenced by Western mythologies? At first glance‚ the analogy between Fred Zinnemann’s masterpiece and Mr. Woolsey’s article is well grounded. However‚ a close scrutiny suggests that few substantial elements

To start off with‚ in the film High Noon written by Carl Foreman we quickly find out that Frank Miller is coming back to town with his gang to get revenge on the Marshall Will Kane. In 1952 there were multiple fantastic films that made it a close competition for best picture. I narrowed down my list of movies to The Quiet Man‚ High Noon‚ and The Greatest Show on Earth. I narrowed it down to these three because Moulin Rouge and Ivanhoe did not perform up to the standards it needed to have a chance at best picture. By thoroughly evaluating these films it has been determined that The Greatest Show on Earth clearly deserved to win its best picture award becuase of its emotional
