The Whitman Walk Work Party focused on invasive plant removal in front of Haggett Hall/McCarty Hall. Our duty was to plant some helping plants that can help maintain the environment‚ such as Sword ferns and Wall lettuce. There were also other tasks available including implanting signs and trash-picking-ups. Yet‚ I found removing invasive plant more appealing to me and thus that became my primary duty of the day. Invasive plants are defined as nonnative plants that are carried into the country either

B. In section one‚ chapter one‚ Diamond explains that the ancestors broke off from Africa as a separate lineage from animals about 7 million years ago. Human ancestors began walking upright around 4 million years ago‚ and they moved to Eurasia around 1 or 2 million years ago. Sometime between 100‚000 and 50‚000 years ago‚ not long after human fossils began to resemble modern homo sapiens‚ the human race had an explosion of new technological and artistic innovations that far surpassed anything previously

Genetically modified organisms or as most of us know them by GMOs. These are organisms where a gene is purposely changed or added artificially to make it more appealing. Humans have been genetically enhancing anything we can. Many people are for GMOs while others are against it. An estimated 70% of all of our food supply contain at least one genetically modified organism. Therefor if you were against it there is really no way of running away from them. I think GMOs do more good then harm. Selective

Comstock gives key questions that we should ask when trying to access the potential harms associated with genetically modified foods. He portrays his many reasons as to why it is ethically justifiable to pursue genetically modified crops and foods through intrinsic and extrinsic objections‚ theories (Rights‚ Utilitarian‚ Virtue) and via technology going deeper in explaining his reasons using experiments and the precautionary response. I agree with Comstock and defend his reasons in concluding that

The GMO crops that were formed in a scientific lab where biotech scientists extract a definite characteristic of a bacterium‚ fungus‚ or virus; then the scientists will inject a seed with the gene turning it into a genetically engineered seed. The GMO regulation has inconsistent guidelines‚ policies that are out of date‚ and regulations that are contradictory between FDA‚ EPA‚ and the USDA. The Federal government will need to upgrade their policies and guidelines that will require that the government

The proposition of DIY Biology has sprung up many ethical concerns and controversy. As its long-term consequences are still unknown‚ many concerns have arisen of its unknown human effects. In addition to this‚ the possibility of allergens has also been an issue. As one organism/species contains a gene that may include be allergy inducing is spliced into another life form‚ the risk of allergic reactions is opened back up. The government should regulate and fund DIY Biology as it extends the life of

Genetically Modified Organisms Genetically modified Organisms (GMOs) has become a popular topic nationwide. The argument of whether it is ethical to use biotechnology to develop crops has been debated back and forth. However‚ GMOs have been proven time and time again that they can increase food production‚ lower costs‚ and decrease damage on the environment. The increased use of pesticides and fertilizers on plants over the years have made a big impact on the environment. These harmful chemicals

I chose to do this paper over conglomeration. The article that I decided to use is Americans like Choices Not a Conglomeration of Look-A-Likes by Ted A. Schweitzer. This article is about how some businesses began offering fewer and fewer choices‚ “which Americans seem to love”‚ after they were bought by a larger corporation (Schweitzer‚ 2008). I really liked this article and thought it had some really good examples over the topic of conglomeration. Schweitzer talks about how retail business like

The public’s unwillingness to comply with scientific prescriptions in regard about new technologies is due to public ignorance and media irresponsibility. The food biotechnology introduces a risk to the environment and human health from the results of the increase in antibiotic resistance and other unintended effects. They have the ability to overcome physiological barriers through an exchange of genetic materials in living organisms. In Brian Wynne’s journal article‚ he argues on the contradiction
