Enzyme Catalysis Abstract: Catalysis is an enzyme that decomposes hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. In this lab we will conduct a series of experiments to determine the affects of; pH‚ temperature‚ and concentration change on such catalysis. After completing the experiments we determined that catalase works most efficiently when in a 27°c‚ 50% (5 ml of catalase – 5ml of water)‚ and a normal body pH of 7°. Enzymes are biological catalysts that operate at the temperatures‚ pressures‚ and moderate pH values found in living organisms. They help in a faster chemical reaction in our human body. Besides this‚ enzymes also play a huge role in various industries. The following paragraphs will talk about how various enzymes are used in various industries : The Dairy Industry and Medical Industry. In the dairy industry‚ the enzyme Protease is used widely. While making cheese‚ protease helps coagulate milk

The main catalyst for conflict is fear My father loves to tell me stories about my great grand father‚ who was once a member of the Chinese communist army. I was told that although my great grand father fought many battles against the Japanese‚ he never fought because of his own believe or own hatred‚ the only reason for all his battles is because he was scared. The fear that China will be dominated by another empire and our family might suffer due to the lost of war has caused him to join the war

introduction to enzymes Enzymes are the foundation of energy and the life force in all living things. They are responsible for building‚ detoxifying‚ and healing the body. They are also the force that allows your body to digest and absorb food. Enzymes also regulate tens of thousands of other biochemical functions that take place in the body every day. Without enzymes‚ seeds would not sprout‚ fruit would not ripen‚ leaves would not change color‚ and life would not exist. Therefore‚ the study of enzymes has

Enzyme Immobilization Methods Covalent Binding: Covalent binding is a conventional method for immobilization; it can be achieved by direct attachment with the enzyme and the material through the covalent linkage [37]. The covalent linkage is strong and stable and the support material of enzymes includes polyacrylamide‚ porous glass‚ agarose and porous silica [38]. Covalent method of immobilization is mainly used when a reaction process does not require enzyme in the product‚ this is the criteria

Purpose: To find how pH and temperature levels affect the enzyme Background: Enzymes are a type of protein vital to sustaining life‚ it works with vitamins and minerals as a biological catalyst‚ which lowers the activation energy for a reaction to occur. Each individual type of enzyme does a specific job‚ and they do not die‚ they are reused. For example‚ catalase is an enzyme found in almost all living cells that will break down hydrogen peroxide and turn it into water and oxygen. The

Enzyme Lab: Peter Kuetzing – 10/4/2012 – F Block 1. How does changing the concentration of enzyme affect the rate of decomposition of H2O2? When more enzymes is added the rate of reaction speeds up. In this case‚ H2O2 will produce more O2‚ in return the kpa/min will go up. 2. What do you think will happen to the rate of reaction if the concentration of enzyme is increased to five drops? Predict what the rate would be for 5 drops. I think that the rate of reaction will slightly increase from

Factors which Affect the Activity of the Enzyme Catalase Purpose: Must include: background information about concepts involved in the lab‚ statement of purpose of the lab identification of independent and dependent variables. A hypothesis is often not necessary or appropriate. Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions in cells. They break down molecules called substrates. Each enzyme has only one substrate that it breaks down. Enzymes are produced in the cells of the body
