Whales are one of the most conserved mammals in the world due to their decline in number over the years as a result of constant whaling. Norway and Japan are notably the world’s biggest whalers. The International Whaling Commission have imposed a ban on whaling as a means to protect these special animals from extinction‚ but the ban only succeeded in causing an uproar among traditional whalers in both Japan and Norway. Both countries claim that whaling has been an age long tradition for their people

In the case of the Makah Tribe‚ I do not think it is appropriate for nonmembers of the tribe to evaluate the morality of the whale hunt. Many indigenous people from around the world hold true to the old ways in an attempt to keep their history alive. This is but one of those traditions. When searching for information about the Makah‚ I found that they do have a long tradition of whale hunting. Realizing that it was up to them to protect their people‚ land‚ and fishing tradition‚ the Makah forefathers

Dolphin Killings in Taiji‚ Japan Brutality‚ crimson waters‚ what a gruesome spectacle it is to see the horrifying sight of dolphins being slaughtered by Taiji fishermen for a profit. In a total of six months the murderers will catch and kill about twenty three hundred of Japan’s annual dolphin population of twenty thousand dolphins. The capture of the dolphins is sinister. The fishermen bang pipes together under the water to throw off a dolphin’s hypersensitive sonar in order to drive the dolphins

Do you agree with the Norwegian and Japanese position on permitting the hunting of non-endangered species of whales as a cultural exemption? Fishing and hunting have been for some communities a way of living for several hundred years. This way of living and the methods associated have been part of their identity for generations after generations‚ and in many cases preserved by these communities. Because of the globalization‚ the world is becoming a “global village” where some powerful countries feel

In this week‚ there was the topic from the whaling ban and the issues this caused. I chose the whaling ban because I like the animals and I’m against the violence or any harm with animals. Each paragraph answers the questions for the assignment. I don’t agree with the Norwegian and Japanese for hunting whales as a cultural exemption. My arguments to be against this “cultural tradition” are the cruelty the whales suffer when they got kill with lethal methods such as the use of the explosive grenade

Since the Middle Ages‚ commercial whaling has been a major contributor to the world economy. Whales were hunted for various reasons including for their oil and baleen. Hitting its peek in America in the 1800s‚ new technologies were invented to make hunting and killing whales easier and more efficient (Marrero and Thornton 2011). The modernization resulted in the depletion of the whale population‚ which drove the fishermen farther and farther out to sea. Seeing a need for global governance‚ the International

The story in the documentary “The Cove” had a very strong and heartfelt story. It touches on how there are more dolphin’s killed during dolphin hunting season than there are whales killed in the Antarctic. The dolphins are lured into a cove in the National Park at Taiji‚ Wakayama and killed by dolphin hunters by spears over the side of their boats and nets. This documentary fell under the category of a social documentary in my eyes. The anti-dolphin hunters are trying to make the people of Japan

In the small village of Taiji‚ there is a hidden cove where Japanese fishermen slaughter thousands of dolphins each year. The massacre of these dolphins goes on for six months out of the year. The dolphins are driven in to captive by using torturous underwater noises and large nets to trap them in to this cove where they are slaughtered. Some of the dolphins are killed in the cove‚ by fishermen cutting their throats with knives or stabbing them with spears‚ while others are taken off shore into trucks

Every year approximately 900.000 seals were killed on commercial slaughters‚ carried out primarily in Canada‚ Greenland‚ Russia‚ and Norway. In 2009 the Humane Society International organization began a campaign against such atrocity. That same year‚ the European Union decided to implement a ban on the importation and commercialization of processed or unprocessed‚ deriving or obtained seal products in response to public moral concerns about seals welfare. Canada and Norway (complainants) filed a
