I could be on the Freshman football team and be in the MRHS marching band not realizing the time requirements needed for each activity. In the summer I was not the best lineman in the field I was decent. On the other hand in marching band i was a good Trumpet player being the second highest trumpet. Ralston Valley Marching Band practices and memorizes a show. Every bar of music is memorized and perfected‚ and every member learns their exact spot on the field for every beat of the show. This kind of thing takes an extreme amount of coordination and planning by the staff. The desire to win‚ mixed with the fear of forgetting a step causes an annoying queasiness in the pit of everyone’s stomachs. Not only would I be worried about my own performance‚ but also concerned for the seven other girls in my section‚ and the sixty plus other people that march on the field around us. Each step‚ note‚ spin‚ or toss

As I slide my hands into my marching band gloves‚ I notice details that I ignored during the 4 years I was in Eastern Regional High School. The gloves are white and made of cotton. First‚ I focus on my wrist. A Velcro strap‚ surrounding my wrist‚ fastens the opening. As I stroke the palms of my gloves‚ I notice the fabric has tiny bumps to create friction and allow for a secure grip. The fabric covering the back of my hands has a soft‚ smooth texture. Next‚ my eyes move up to my fingers. I recall

Mighty Buffalo Marching Band‚ which performed the memorizing halftime show. Our show‚ entitled‚ “Wavelength‚” was filled with swaying visuals‚ rotating circles‚ interlocking diagonals‚ musical runs‚ dynamic soloists‚ the whole kitchen sink. However‚ I did not just arrive at show time the day of the first football game. Weeks of hard work and tedious preparation went into that spectacular halftime show. As an overwhelmed freshman‚ who was having my first experience of marching band‚ those weeks were brutal
