    The first time I read this poem I got the feeling that the speakers dad is an alcoholic based on the first 2 lines. Knowing that I got this pit in my stomach because my dad is an alcoholic aswell and I grew up with him always smelling like beer or rum. The second stanza I didn’t really understand so with a few more readings and dissecting it I should figure it out. However I did get that the dad is abusive towards the speaker based on the 3rd and final stanza. Overall I feel that this poem is strong
