"MOTHER TO SON" OF LANGSTON HUGHES "Mother to Son" of Langston Hughes is my favorite. What the mother in the poem tries to tell her son is that there will be many rough roads that he has to go by in his life but she hopes that he will not give and complete it like his mother. Through the dialect that Hughes used in his poem‚ we can see that the mother was not a well educated woman by the way she talks "there ain’t" (13) and some grammar mistakes. She was living a poor area with "boards torn up"

Negro Mother” and “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes. Both of these poems are about a mother speaking to her children and speaking of the hard times that she has been through in the past. If we read these poems it’s very much telling us about history and the things that black people had to endure back in the days. Many people can view it as her speaking to her children or to her son directly but I see it as her speaking to the black children of society. The Negro Mother is a poem where a mother is

Mother to Son Analysis Langston Hughes’ moving poem "Mother to Son" empowers not only the son‚ but also the reader with precious words of wisdom. Through the skillful use of literary devices such as informal language‚ symbolism‚ metaphors‚ repetition‚ as well as clever use of format‚ Hughes manages to assemble up the image of a mother lovingly‚ yet firmly‚ talking to her son about life. This poem is an advice from a mother to son about life that will be challenging and do not think about giving

The Wall in Robert Frost’s “Mending Wall “ As a Symbol of Division The ordinarily mundane takes a thought arousing spin in one of Robert Frost’s earlier works‚ “Mending Wall”. This poem is a striking take on an otherwise commonplace ritual between two farmers in the spring. Because the poem is in blank verse‚ it carries a casual folksy feel throughout‚ contradictory to its deeper message and paradoxical tone. “Good fences make good neighbors.” This line is a paradox when compared with the previous

called “Mending Wall” by Robert Frost‚ I uncontrollably connect the poem to our current United States 2016 presidential election‚ because Donald Trump propose to build a wall between Mexico and the United States. Basically‚ I directly connect the poem with its keywords‚ which makes me fail to see the overall idea of its message. As I progress‚ I continue to seek the literal meaning of each word‚ such as to whom is the poet referring to when he says‚ “Something there is that doesn’t love a wall” (Line

door without scraping edges or marking the walls. The straight and narrow path of the bullet represents the mind of a person who has no capacity to change or grow. Frost characterizes these two types of people in his poem‚ “Mending Wall‚” paired with symbolism and repetition to create the idea that without questions there is no room for change. Frost uses symbolism in this poem to generate the fact that tradition is sometimes meant to be challenged. The wall that separates the two
