Theme of “The Welcome Table” The Welcome Table‚ by Alice Walker is a story filled with religious symbolism. All through the story‚ the lady is slightly fazed by the pretentious and conceited congregation that is time after time piercing her with ridiculing looks of disdain. It is only by force that the men feel duty-bound to get rid of her by force. As it stands in this story traditional society is absolutely wrong yet unapologetic. Religion is the theme of this story. Still‚ while in the analytical

The first thing that captured my interest about the story “Country Lovers”‚ by Nadine Gordimer was the first line. “Right from the opening sentence it is clear that this will be a story about inter–racial relationships.” ( Claxton‚ 2010). This sentence caught my attention because it gave me mixed emotions‚ first of hoping that this forbidden love would have a happy ending‚ and also a sense of foreboding that this would not be the case due to the inter-racial theme and the setting of the story.

Country Lovers: Reading Reflection Country Lovers captures emotion and imagination only in a way our human minds can draw for us that no television will ever be able to mimic. For me this story took a familiar feeling story and put a twist on it with a semi modern feel. Using a formalist analytical view the story was in a memorable setting‚ and had a classic plot. Along with the setting the author was able to use what seemed appropriate language use that added to the mood and theme. Overall
