The development of Dictyostelium discoideum was compared in two varying temperatures after 30 hrs of development. The D. discoideum cultures were observed for developmental differences in multicellular aggregate forms of slugs and fruiting bodies in 10°C and 22°C. The mean percent of organisms was higher in less developed stages for both temperatures. The average percent of aggregates were higher at 41.625% for the D. discoideum cultures that developed at 22°C. The average precent of fingers were

The social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum is an interesting microbe that has used as a powerful model organism for biomedical and pharmacological studies. This eukaryote model‚ which has been used to study basic cell function and multicellular development‚ undergoes a 24-h asexual life cycle comprised of both single-cell and multicellular phases. As a result‚ it is an excellent system for studying a variety of cellular and developmental processes such as‚ chemotaxsis‚ lysosome function and signaling

must carry out all life processes in order for that cell to survive. In contrast‚ even the simplest multicellular organisms have cells that depend on each other in order to survive. Some organisms are partially uni- and multicellular‚ like Dictyostelium discoideum. Other can be unicellular and multinucleate‚ like Myxogastria and Plasmodium. ‘Candidatus Magnetoglobus multicellularis’‚ related to Deltaproteobacteria‚ is a multicellular prokaryote. It is neither unicellular‚ nor a colony. Most unicellular

Model organisms are organisms used for research. They are alive‚ non-human species used for the purpose of studying different human diseases or other related experiments in which human testing would be considered either unsafe or unethical. Scientists study a particular biological phenomenon on a model organism and try to relate their findings to other types of organisms that are more difficult to study. As an example‚ 60% of human disease genes have an equivalent in the fruit fly and nematode worm

The effect of nutrition on the activity of Artemia franciscana Intro: In most ecosystems‚ the availability of nutrition is the most limiting factor of population growth and activity (Fábregas‚ 1997). If there is a lack of food resources in a community or a lack of certain specific dietary requirements‚ then the physiology of that community and it’s fecundity should be noticeably affected. Nutrients like carbohydrates‚ proteins and fats are carried around the body‚ along with oxygen from the

ammonia is a basic solution‚ this leads to the question of whether or not the slime mold‚ Dg‚ has a preference of acidic to basic solutions. What pH works best for the best production of fruiting bodies? In this experiment‚ the slime mold‚ Dg (Dictyostelium Giganteum) and various pH solutions will be plated in a petri dish and observed‚ compared‚ and contrasted. The efficiency of the pH solutions will be determined by how fast/slow the fruiting bodies covers the petri dish over a two-week period
